All the oil drained out of the gaping hole in the side of the engine, and subsequently you tried to jump start the bike, and the engine locked up?

You tried to start the engine empty of oil. That is on top of any othermage done by the crash. You would be EXTREMELY lucky to have an easy fix now.

Pretty sure all I need to do is clean out the engine maybe with brake cleaner to get rid of any debris, rewire the starter and replace the cap, refill with oil, replace handle bars and front rim and i should be good to go.

If you've just cracked the starter cap then maybe, hidden damage would be what I would be more concerned about, if a bit of casing got into the engine and you tried to bump it you could have caused a lot of damage, detritus in your engine is a concern now, maybe a flush would be in order.

Well, since you said the oil is leaking out of that gaping hole, there is a chance stuff has gotten into the oil, a visual inspection of the area followed by manual removal of debris would be the first step, after replacement of the cover you may still have pieces in the engine, so replacing the filter is a must, you can buy oil flush stuff from the shop and it'll do what it says on the tin, personally i'd put the filter cover back on without the filter, fill it up to the brim with new cheap oil, then drain it all out and do an oil change as usual and use a filter obviously.

that just screams "Look at me, I'm a stupid noob"...250 riders already get made enough fun of as it is, then you go doing some stupid **** like this...

Why the hell would you attempt something stupid like wheelies on a 250 when you're a beginner and don't even have any crash protection? and then try to start a bike that's leaking oil...

I hope you didn't call insurance...and then people wonder why are insurance is so high. Noobs like you do dumb **** like this and then we all end up paying for it...

I hope you didn't post up on GTAM either, the guys over there would have a field day ripping you a new hole...

Welcome to the site, M !!!

Sorry to read about your mishap.

How much oil did leak out before you re-started the engine?
A little is OK, 1 liter is not.

For how long the engine worked after that?

Could you determine what was the via through which the oil was leaking out?

I wouldn't worry about replacing any part (including that cover) until I would remove that aluminum cover and clean all the debris and until I would determine if the engine did get any damage form low oil level.

are you seriously sorry for the guy?? Where do you guys draw the line with the whole "friendliest 250 site on the internet" crap?? Maybe you should give the kid some real advice and tell him not to be such as a dummy.

I'm paying 2300 bucks for insurance at 23 with a clean record and my 20 year old cousins just got a $4000 renewal...you wouldn't be feeling so sorry if guys like this who just end up being another statistic were causing you to have astronomical rates...

This isn't GTAM...he didn't say anything about calling his insurance company, he asked for technical advice about his cracked case and possible engine seizure.

Jason,

I think it's abundantly clear that the OP did a series of stupid things, starting with trying to stunt prior to learning how to ride

However, like you said, there are so many sites where people would tear the OP apart. Why turn this site into one of them?

To the OP:

What's done is done. Hopefully you learned from your mistakes and it probably cost you a motorcycle. Honestly, these bikes are so cheap and labor is so expensive that little mishap likely caused a total loss. You totaled the bike. Engine is most likely seized.

I think the sooner you accept that there will be no quick fix, the better. Consider it a learning experience. It could have been a lot worse. It could have been your life if it was a bigger CC bike and your mistakes were bigger.

No fear is OK I guess, but don't ever confuse that with invincibility. I knew a young guy who died in a plane crash two weeks ago. ****, happens, people die. That is the real world. Doing stupid **** makes it more likely that bad things will happen to you. As long as you understand that, then it's up to you to make your choice.

going down on gravel in full gear in a sharp corner compared to doing ****ing wheelies when you're a noob...BIG difference.

and I just said "I hope you didn't call em", not that he did. A lot of the US guys were wondering why we have ridiculous insurance, well this is one reason why.

How do you think it would have turned out if the cops showed up or someone called them out of concern? Insurance would be notified whether he files a claim or not and at the end of the day all those statistics accumulate and **** all of us young guys up the ass, whether we have a clean record or not.

I am simply stating the truth, whether you like it or not.

Yes, Jason, I feel sorry for the OP, as well as for the high insurance rates that we all have to pay.

However, I come here to help and not to judge others.

The OP just joined our forum, and he is not asking us about the good or bad of popping wheelies or how stupid we believe he was; he is just trying to fix his bike,.............and certainly not asking us to pay for his mistake and accident.

I wish that a simple real advice and telling someone not to be such a dummy would make a difference in the wrong attitudes of people and in the problems of this world.

Unfortunately, the reality is what it is: there are all kinds of persons and we all have made mistakes, especially when young and inexperienced.

You may be right and my friendly approach does not work or help anyone; that is just the way I am.

Riders put themselves into dangerous situations, wreck their bikes and even die everyday; I am sure it is not because they want but because they are ignorant, ...........as ignorant as I was one day.

The "don't be such a dummy" advice never worked with me, and I am sure it doesn't go far with most of the young people.

IMHO, educating riders is the only sure way of reducing those costly accidents and tragedies.

Some will take that good advice, some won't take it or simply won't care; however, that does not depend on me.

After paying my insurer's fees, I just try to educate myself, to help, to be courteous and to ride well

Sorry for my friendliness upsetting you, it was not my intention.

well those of us here in Ontario we have some of the highest insurance rates in the country and the highest electricty rates in north America (thank you liberals for both)

this guy wrecking his bike is not the reason we pay so much we pay so much because the companies are allowed to make HUGE profits and the government keeps approving insurance rate hikes. HST didnt help with the prices either

I am 38 got my drivers lic at 16 got my motorcycle learners permit this march and bought a brand new 2012 ninja 250 my rates with full coverage is $680.ish a year would have been half that if i switch my 3 cars (they wanted too much to insure the cars)

dude who wrecked, starting your bike with no oil was stupid oil leaks, warning lights = shut engine off right away or in your case dont try and start

Like others have said, definitely a good idea to be cautious whenever your bike is leaking any fluid. I once dumped my dirt bike and sliced open a coolant tube and lost it all. Despite my desire to kick it over and ride it up the many hills to get back to my place i reluctantly pushed it ~ 2 miles out of the woods just to be safe... it sucked.

@LoneRonin I see no reason to add insult to injury... He did something stupid and paid for it. I'm hoping the OP will learn his lesson from this and not do stupid **** in the future, but there's no point BASHING him like that... Arrogance never helped anyone...
