2006 ninja 250 power band question

Spooph indicated in my winter storage thread not to worry about running the engine at 8-12k once the engine is warmed up. My bike seems to have a noticeable power band starting around 6k rpms. But, if I'm at 70mph in 6th which is between 8,200 and 8,400 rpms and Crack the throttle to pass, there is no burst of power. Is that normal for this bike, or is something maybe out of tune/adjustment. I am running new plugs, checked the gap, so I'm fairly certain it's not a plug issue. The bike is parked for the winter and my rpm range is from memory- haven't ridden for about a month.

Depending on your jetting, exhaust and gearing that would be normal. Many of the riders here have new gens (08-12) and that bike pulls the hardest starting around 8k with stock bits. Pregens (07 and less) can feel a bit different, many riders that own both even say they are faster engines.

At that particular speed, it's normal.

You should feel additional torque (around 13 lb of force) pushing you forward.

The problem could be adjustment of valves or dirty/incorrect size of jets or sticky slides/damaged diaphragms.

You can always downshift one step (6 to 5) prior to attempt a pass, which will add 1000 rpm's to your engine in order to keep the 70 mph initially.

Your engine happily delivers maximum torque around 9K~10K rpm's.

Your PreGen likes more RPMs than that (8,000-ish). Click down at least 1 gear if you need acceleration. A PreGen engine needs to be near 10,000 RPMs if you want to go anywhere.

As long as the engine is properly tuned and adjusted, and the oil is good, there's no problem running it in that range. It will pump some oil into the airbox through the crankcase breather when running in that range for an extended amount of time, especially in hot temps, so you need to keep an eye on the oil level a bit more than other bikes.

Run Rotella T6 5W-40 oil. It's synthetic, easy to find, inexpensive, and covers all of the bases.

Perhaps you need an upgrade to black or maybe even purple, if you're careful. I wouldn't go green, though. You might melt your tire.

Last time, before I parked the bike, I was going around 60 mph in 6th. That's around 7200 rpm. I did downshift to 5th, a celerated and shifted up to 6th. I was doing about 80 after the pass. It just seems like the greatest burst of power comes at closer to 6 or 7,000 rpms.

How much do you weigh? How much gear are you carrying?
OEM gear/sprocket ratio? OEM tires?

I'm 5'-6" 145 lbs. No gear. Rear tire is a Pirelli 120/80-16. Front tire is stock size. I believe gearing is original/ stock.
Stock rear is listed as 130/80-16

My 2006 has sport demon tires (100/90/16 and 130/90/16) and stock sprockets, and it is about 8800 rpm at 70mph. Is it because of the tire size or is it something I need to worry about? Is there a way to bring the rpm down at the same speed?
