How cool is your employer?

About a month back I had a small, very mild (thank the Goddess) Stroke while sitting at my desk at work. I had ridden in to work that day and the usual suspects that I would call to help me out were out of town.

So what did my employer do?

The VP of my division told Facilities to have my bike brought in and secured in the Building. We had maintenance rooms in the parking garage large enough to safely park the bike, as well as the Emergency Back Up Generator which has an enclosure large enough to park the Fork Lift the company will rent from time to time when facilities needs to.

So even though my boss' think I am crazy, they still respect my bike enough to secure it in the building without a second thought.

Very very cool--sounds like a great place to work. Did you get your "mini Stroke" (TIA) checked out medically? You would not want to get one of those while riding----could ruin your whole day.

Thanks goodness it wasn't on your bike. And what a great thing they did. A small gesture that shows they are watching your back. Pretty cool.

Yes they did. It isn't a TIA though, but an actual stroke that had very very minor issues. At first they thought it was a TIA when all the prelim testing came back with all the signs. It was when they did an MRI they found "evidence" of the stroke at the back of my head at the top of the spine on the left side.

I don't have any actual paralysis, but I have more numbness in my left side then previously and facial ticks that I have never had before. The ticks can even cause my vision to waver as the eye on the left vibrates back and forth.

They believe the Excedrine Migraine that I take to counter a medication induced headache an hour earlier had a profound impact on keeping it so mild.

Blood Pressure btw hit 153/109 when normally it is 80/65.

I'm glad to hear that your ok. Did you get plan moving forward, things that you can do to keep it from happening again?
My boss is awesome aswell. He puts up with me wearing my boots and jeans in the office and thinks its funny to send me to meet with certain clients on my bike. He used to ride a 250 a while back. He also gave me his old bike cover.

The medical side of the house is getting worked on. No real history in the family, no real sign of a cause so far. More tests to be done.

Looking at your BP at the time of the stroke, I would suspect that they will be looking for arterial plaque or some temporary blockage. Suspect that they will treat it with medication-----probably a combination of Statins and a medication in the Plavix family. Do take your Doc seriously and you will be around for a long long time. Sounds like you have a good Doc watching your back and you will be A-OK.

My max BP during the Cardio Stress test was 132/90 at 115BPM...As the doc put it, the BP is the clue that I had an actual stroke that made them break out the microscope to find the evidence of the stroke. I lasted to level 3 and 9 minutes before I had to stop because my legs were going to collapse.

Gotta love Excedrin Migrane. That stuff is great. I suffer migranes sometimes, and that stuff is about the only thing that will knock it out.
