I did notice! Do I get a squid point?

I don't know why old people don't ride those things instead of those rubbish battery operated chairs I see them on.

It wasn't put in here for it being an ugly two-wheeler. It was just put in as a visualization of lgk saying he'd rather ride a motorized bar stool. :P

I've owned loads of what you would call 'classic cars', the oldest a '55 Ford Prefect. No seatbelts, but no problem, drive more carefully that's all. My present car is a '72 VW T2, though that has belts, no servo brakes, no airbag, no power assisted steering, lovely old thing !
I don't think any vehicle is a death trap, it's how you use it, don't forget, there are MILLLIONS of people on the planet who consider ALL motor cycles death traps ...............

Oh I dunno about that. Ever seen the videos of crash tests on Ford Pintos? If you hit a Pinto from behind at about 35mph it will be enough to jam both doors, puncture the gas tank, and cause a fire in the rear to start in a matter of seconds (if the engine is running of course). That to me constitutes a "death trap".

I hear what you're saying, and a car that does so badly in a low speed crash can't be described as well designed, but, if we all only drove cars that met with high safety standards, then frankly none of us would use the classics. (I'm not saying the Pinto is a classic mind ).
As a matter of interest, what do you have to set the standards in the US, we have NCAP, which is a big Euro wide safety organisation.

Sorry, to redeem myself from the hijack, what do we reckon to this .......

Well your EU NCAP is actually based off the US NCAP that was started by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) back in 1979. We also have the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) which is funded by the auto insurers. Both of them do extensive testing on cars to rate their crash worthiness.

Oh, and the original design of the pinto called for 3 things that were taken out before production that would have saved it and fixed that problem. 1) safety bar reinforcement in doors to provide extra strength to the structure of the car, 2) airbags, which would have been the first car to have them, and 3) a fuel cell in the gas tank to prevent leakage in case of accident. All 3 of these were taken out of the design and the result was a car that did in fact get people killed because of that situation I described.

Can't be real. That whole look-through area should be a gas tank and there is no way the graphics on those header pipes would hold up to the heat.

Okay. "A" for effort, but... try to imagine other people seeing you riding this bike.
