Ben Spies Wins the 2011 MotoGP Championship

Anyone think differently? Bring it on.

Who is your favorite?

Oh yea, Hayden and Rossi finish 2nd and 3rd.

Suzuki enters each race.

Honda has rider conflicts.

Lorenzo has terrible year and finishes 4th.

Oscar Acosta finishes a lowly 5th but loves every minute of it.

I don't see Ben winning it all. He may snag a win or two.

Rossi
Lorenzo
Hayden
Stoner
Pedrosa

Any of those five could win it all and I wouldn't be suprised. But I think it is going to be Dani's year.

He's gonna need to step up his game a whole lot to do it. I think he was a bit surprised at the level of competition, considering how he damn near walked all over everyone in SBK.

It's Stoner's season. Just look at how well he's doing in testing.

I like Ben Spies, but I don't think he's going to win the championship. He still has a lot to learn.

Did you not watch last season? He never expected to walk over everyone, but he did damn good on a satellite bike.

I think he will do well in 2011. I'd like to see him get the championship, but I think that will come in 2012 when they go back to 1000s. Ben will definietly have a few wins this year.

I've met Nicky Hayden a couple of times. I met Ben Spies in Dec at the Long Beach IMS show.

I think Spies will do very well this year, now that he's with the factory team. Stoner has been amazing every time he's ridden for his new team. I like Hayden, but he hasn't been a strong finisher with Ducati. However, the "new" bike should help. Lorenzo will do well, he was almost unstoppable last year.

It will be very interesting to see the first races and find out who can really do what. There are a few riders who do not put all of their cards on the table in the practice rounds. No point in showing everyone what to expect before they have to.

I predict Stoner, Pedro and Jorge battling for the title this year.

I think Ben will be on the podium many more times this year and may even get a win or two, but I in the grand scheme, will not truely be in the battle for the championship.

Yep, I watched every race last year. My point was that he seemed to have a rough go of it, and that he'll need to step up his game to beat the other people in the grid (Lorenzo, Rossi, et al). I'd love to see him win, I jsut don't think it'll happen this year.

Lorenzo is definitely going to be the one to beat this year. I think Rossi and Hayden still have to work with those Duc's to be in top shape, we're still in pre season though so its hard to tell. Honda is pushing strong this year so I have no doubt the Repsol boys are going to come out strong.

I refuse to root for an Italian or a Spaniard because they are not American. I refuse to root for any Texan for the same reason.

I didn't think Ben had such a rough go of it...He was on a non factory bike, and I thought he kicked azzz...His tire setup was not the best...He had to nurse his tires in every race...Watch out this year...He's going to rip it up...By the end of the year he will be the number 1 rider on his team...

The pole position and 2nd place he pulled in Indy on the Tech3 bike makes for a strong argument that it's not a bad bet that he could win this year.

Sharky, not sure I understand. You are saying that because Nicky is from Kentucky my argument is null? Well, allow me to retort.

It is a well known fact that Texans would like to see Texas secede from the Union. I am happy to let them go. If they consider themselves Texans first and Americans second, I am absolutely gonna root for the guy who claims America first and the OWB second!

Sounds like somebody has an inferiority complex about a neighboring state.

Ding, Vale's done.

Every Italian on the face of the Earth has been waiting for this season, when the greatest Italian ever to ride a motorcycle teams up with the greatest Italian motorcycle brand. They all have finally got what they have dreamed about for years.

Here's my question: what happens when Vale doesn't produce?

Much respect & admiration to all the MotoGP riders. Spies looks consistent but..

SuperSic is on the move The guy's a real character I think he's going to be mixing it up & bangin' with the front runners more this season -hopefully even take a couple wins.

Spies seems very level headed and realistic. He knows he's running with the best. Sure to be consistently running 5th & higher but can't see him taking the title as Jorge will probably be in front of him more often.

All the Ducati boys (6 total) are getting work done and making the most improvements in their lap times. They've got lots more work to do before being podium contenders but I'm crossing my fingers that the Doctor will be back to his winning ways and fighting for the top step by the start of the season.

Ha! You're right! So even if Vale succeeds, who cares? It's been done. And by Max Biaggi no less! Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. So this is how the career of the most brilliant man ever to ride a motorcycle ends?! He will still ALWAYS be the best.

Rossi already won 2 world Championships with an Italian Bike, and Italian Team. Now if he pulls it off in MotoGP, he will be the FIRST to win on an Italian Bike, with an Italian Team in all 3 divisions.

Greatest Italian ever to ride a motorcycle? Greatest Italian motorcycle brand? Try Giacomo Agostini on MV Agusta... 13 grand prix titles together! He is the all time leader in victories in GP history.

But yeah, with this precedent, I can see why the Italians are ecstatic!

All true, but it was a different era. His factory bikes were so far ahead of the competition that he would often win by minutes, not seconds. In many years and in many classes, there wasn't a single viable rival to his dominance. Skill was of course a key part of it, but sheer superiority of equipment was present throughout.

Rossi has been on the best bikes available for much of his GP career, but by no means was he the only one on good bikes, and he has had to fight much harder for his X victories compared to what Agostini needed to.

But these differences are why it's always challenging to compare champions from era to era, things are never equal and can be debated ad nauseum.
