What's the furthest you've ridden a Ninjette in a single day?

I'm contemplating a trip from NorCal to New Mexico for a Mtb race this weekend. Total distance will be over 1100 miles with Flagstaff AZ being a somewhat middle point at 700 or so miles. The smart thing to do would be to stop in Flagstaff Wednesday night and finish the trip Thursday. Then again if I left at 4am I could make to NW before 10pm if all goes well. Sure the long day on the bike will take its toll but then I'd have 2 full days to relax before the race instead of just one. That means an extra day before the race to acclimate to the over 7000' elevation since I basically live at sea level.

My longest trip in a day to date is 800 miles and yeah that was a long ride to be sure. Honestly I don't remember how I felt at the end of if I thought I could continue going.

I can think of dozens of bikes and even a few small cars better suited for a trip like this but I don't own any of those so I have to work with what I have.

The most i've ridden in a single day was 500 miles. But that wasn't all at once, in the morning I did a quick 100 miles trip then that afternoon I went for a 300 miles run then at the end portion of the day I did another 100 miles. lol.

If i were going to compete in a MTB competition, I would want to have my personal MtB bike that I have put miles on, and know it really fits my body and ride style. I know that the Greyhound is a dog of a way to get around, but you can sleep on the way while your bike rides below. Just a thought.

I've never been able to make to 900 miles personally, and the motorcycle beats that crap out of you - as I'm sure you know. I would not go this route if I were you, but then again you're probably in a lot better shape than I and might be able to make it work. Then again, after the race, all I'd want to do is sit down, and a car or bus would be the way to go...

Jason, Longest day for me on one of my Ninjettes was around 600 miles. It was a long day but not a killer. 800 miles obviously will be tougher. I'd shoot for a longer first leg of around 650 to 750 miles finishing up on the second day with 450-350 miles. I'd just go far as I could the first day without beating myself up too much. Stopping for the first day around Flagstaff sounds pretty good to me. You could go farther but the remaining distance is pretty easy so why push it. You gotta save a little bit of your energy for the MTB race.

We do have an IB Ninjetter with @NevadaWolf. Teri, what do you think?

Good luck with your race!

After some guesstimating i think i did 250 - 300 miles in one day. I wasn't tracking but that was when i went on the Bear Mountain ride years ago... We got kinda lost on the way home.

Ok, to answer the question, 1524 miles in 24.5 hours. I don't know what mileage I was at when 24 hours rolled around, but hey close enough.

Second, what's the most hours you've done in the saddle? If you keep your stops short, and your interstate speed up, you can work on maintaining a high overall average speed. For the 1000 mile rides, I tend to average about 55 mph over the course of the 18 hours it takes me. That's counting in stops for rest, food, gas, and bathroom. When I really try pushing it, my average goes up to around 62.5 mph, that gets me 500 miles in 8 hours.

Sounds easy on paper, but over the day it all adds up and gets tougher.

What I usually do if I'm not on the clock and just wanting to ride is I will plot my route, mentally note towns big enough for cheap lodging, then just ride until I'm tired, find a motel, and get some sleep before waking up somewhat early and finishing the ride. Leaves me the flexibility to keep going if I'm not tired, with the knowledge of several bail out points if I reach my limit for the day.

I do like Vic's suggestion of getting the most miles out of Day 1, then picking up the last leg (if any) on Day 2's morning, giving yourself at least a day and a half rest to acclimate.

Just my humble opinion, anyway.

Yeah thanks for the responses. I wasn't looking for advice as much as I was thinking of starting a fun topic since I haven't been on the forum much these days. It looks like I'll be shooting for Gallup NV which is only 911 miles. They have a 24hr Mtb race in Gallup in June so I figure I'll ride a loop of the course and see if it's worth coming back out to in a few months.

As for my avg speed, well that really depends on the wind direction. I pretty much ride WOT the whole way because the Mtb has a lot of drag. If it's a headwind I may be WOT in 5th do keep it at 70mph, if it's really strong then I'll be in 4th just trying to keep it above 65mph. If I get lucky and find a tail wind I've been know to cruise at 90mph. My fuel and food stops are short but then at 40mpg so is my range so it all ends up being average.

My longest time in the saddle was that 800 mile day at 13hr with a nice long dinner toward the end. My longest time on the MTB is 22hrs or 220 miles, so I can go the distance if I can stay awake. I'm not looking to set any records and I have time to spare so if I get tired I'll take a nap at a rest stop or call it a day.

Yeah I'd never rent some pile of crap bike from a shop to race on, I'm very particular about my setup and will only race my own stuff. I'll have to look into the greyhound thing but these races are alway in remote areas so I'd still have to find or rent a ride to and from the venue. Mtbers are the easier people to get ahold of and plan things with, especially if you don't know anyone in the area.

I was mostly giving a long answer to bury my mileage. I'm abnormal, didn't want to scare anyone from posting their biggest day, regardless of what it is.

Fo some reason I thought there was a similar topic not too long ago but can't find it...

417 in one day, I would need a better seat to go further. My bum was really sore.

I have thought about longer trips, I will see what happens in TN later this year.

First go see a proctologist and have prostate removed and placed in jar for future reattachment. Get seat upgraded by Spencer, (http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php) or get a gel cushion to go over top. I got one for like $50. Longest I have done in one day is only like 250 miles with a couple 15 min breaks along the way. Still have the oem seat, which after 250 miles it literally felt like my prostate was now located in my throat. Also being 5'11" my back got cramped really bad, didn't matter if i was crouched or sitting straight up. Once I got the gel pad it was better on the prostate, but the gel gets really hot which sucks. I am going to look for a used seat to use while I send mine to Spencer seat Mods. From what others have said it is better than a corbin seat and way cheaper.

170 miles: Cambridge to Oxford and back

Don't plan on doing longer rides than that on my ninjette. Maybe if I had one of those big comfy BMWs like @Alex has, I'd ride further.

I've done about 600 miles. But it was all curvy 2 lane, no slab, and lots of breaks. Took way longer than it needed to. like 12 hours...

Before I did my longest single day ride on SERENITY, I modified the OEM seat.

https://www.ninjette.org/forums/blog.php?b=8352

It was easy and inexpensive to do, I would recommend trying to modify your own seat.

I have done over 600 km sometimes but found that around 400 km daytrips are comfortable when touring.

Only around 250. I generally ride the 650 for longer trips. The 250 stays around town mostly.
