Rode to Nevada, met NevadaWolf!

Saturday I piloted my Ninjette over the hill to Carson Nevada. There is plenty of snow at higher elevations, but the road was nice and dry. Here is the Kirkwood ski area:

Further up, I was surprised to find Caples Lake still frozen over.

From the summit on, the wind was howling. By the time I started feeling a bit chilly, it was time to descend into Nevada and thaw out again. I stopped for the obligatory photo at the state line.

I eventually arrived at Carson City. There I met up with NevadaWolf. She is only the 2nd Ninjette forum member I have had the pleasure of meeting in person, and it was definitely worth the trip. Teri is not only effervescent and quick witted, she is the quintessential distance rider. Her enthusiasm for motorcycling is contagious. We shared lunch at the Mom & Pop's Diner (delicious!) and swapped riding tales.

All too soon, it was time to leave such pleasant company and start westward again. Teri said she would ride back with me for a while. I thought she meant to the edge of town, or maybe even all the way to the state line. I was wrong. She actually rode with me all the way to Hwy 49, 104 miles distant! She then headed for Hwy 50 to make a loop back to NV and home. Like I said, NevadaWolf will apparently ride anywhere at the drop of a hat.

I arrived home safely, having covered a modest 324 miles.

Oh, hell no! You angle that camera to skip out on being in the picture?! Wrong!

Bah, since I haven't written my report, may as well contribute here. two for one!

So get this email saying "Hey, going to be in the area, wanna meet?" Absolutely! I suggest Mom & Pop's Diner as a great place due to the food, service, and ease of getting a table in the afternoon. If ever in Carson for breakfast though, this is one of two HIGHLY recommended places - especially if you love cinnamon rolls.

Anyways, after hanging out beyond closing time , Tim says he's just heading back home so I decided to follow. Really had no plans on how far I'd go along and my "Well just to..." narrative kept changing as I went.

Beautiful, though chilly and definitely windy, ride over the Sierras. I had JUST swapped out my winter gear for summer gear so had mesh jacket and gloves. Luckily I still had my warm gloves and liner as I expected to be riding at night. Oh boy did I need them! The mountains are showing signs of spring with new growth, melting snow, crystal blue lakes, sunshine filtering through the clouds.

Reached Sutter Creek before turning north and heading home. The clock finally convinced me to head back since I really hadn't planned that long of a ride anyway. Originally had thought it would be fun to head home via Hwy 104 but the time and risk of deer tossed that idea out the window. An easy ride back up 49, somehow missed the turn into Placerville and got on Hwy 50 to the west of town, and then up the narrow highway towards Echo Summit.

Traffic wasn't too bad and I was settled in to a nice rhythm of passing and being passed. Cresting the mountains revealed Lake Tahoe below bathed in the pastels of sunset and as I circled around the east side, the pinks, orange, and blues in the sky was breathtaking. Sadly, I know my camera sucks in getting that type of shot so you'll have to take my word for it.

Short hop down the mountain, dinner with my Dad, then settled in for a night of Minecraft.

Awesome to meet another Ninjetter and great great time hanging out with you, @misfitsailor! We definitely must do that again!!

Looking at your previous bikes, you need a 2011. You had an 88, a 99, keep the pattern please. For me

Going with the pattern, she needs an '00 before an '11.

88, 99, 00, 11

Right?

Now this is a cute little thread!

Love the styling of your bike @misfitsailor. That tank bag follows the colours and the curves of your ninjette very nicely too.

I love my little camera and love sharing the area with everyone. Hard getting several hours down to <10 minutes though!

I know right?? I saw the statues, then the park thing up the hill and was all WTH?? I need an augmented reality thingy in my helmet to tell me what places I pass are. People are so oddly creative.

Great video @NevadaWolf

The roads surface looked much nicer on your lone-wolf journey home. The scenery looked a bit nicer too. That was an awesome looking tunnel you entered. I love tunnels. I've never ridden through a mountain tunnel like that... very special!

Does your modified dash automatically turn the backlight on when it gets dark? It looks fancy! I can't justify buying one though. Before that I want a new rear shock, tyre hugger, double bubble, flush mounted lights, custom fairings, built-in camera, new levers... etc etc etc I've got to say; the ninja 300 really did add a lot of things which I wanted for my 250R all along. I've considered upgrading, but at this point it probably isn't worth it. My ninjette probably performs similarly to the stock 300 now.
(and it hasn't yet blown up )

I dunno, Hwy 50 really isn't all that great on scenery. Carson Pass (what we went over) and Ebbetts Pass further south are far prettier IMO. Roads are a bit better as both 49 and 50 are heavily travelled while the others are subject to winter closures and damage from snow and ice.

The tunnel is Cave Rock, the westbound lane goes through the blasted original cave while the eastbound lane goes through an entirely manmade tunnel.

Nope, the Koso is lit all the time, just shows up easier in the twilight or dark. I have it on green to match the bike but it has 6 other colors you can choose from. I got it mainly as I read digital easier than analog but the clock and dual tripmeters have come in very handy lately.

I set mine to green because it is the most pleasant, easy on the eyes color.

I love tunnels. If I have a tunnel to myself, I like to blast the air horn on the Ninjette, or lean on the throttle if on the Harley.
