F1 back in the US, and coming to.....Austin, TX

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...0/5/10824.html

Formula 1 will return to the US in 2012. They are building a purpose built facility near Austin, TX.

I can't wait. A college friend of mine live in Austin, and I go see him at least once a year anyway, I will just have to schedule my trip accordingly.

That is awesome - sure it may tie up traffic in an already congested area, but it is F1. I just hope that it isn't going to be in the deep heat of summer - not too many people are prepared for the heat of Central Texas. The city does get a lot of media attention, despite the population that has exploded beyond any good and the terrible weather (heat and drought don't mix). But being a native of the city, it beats a lot of places.

I know it says an agreement has been reached, but I'll believe it when I see it on the calendar. I'd love for it to happen though.

That is amazing! I saw them for the last time in Indy before they decided to not come back. Too bad I don't live near TX.

This is old news. I already have my tickets. If you can't get tickets rumor has it that youtube will be broadcasting it live.

I hope they have it while school is still in session. The thought of Texas college girls, great music, and Formula 1 all in the same town is almost too much to handle.

i wouldn't mind hearing the scream of F1 in person.
I wonder if they would hold any motorcycle races on the course when they aren't doing F1.

After reading that article I don't know what the hell they're talking about when they say "excellent transportation infrastructure". To get across town by bus takes over 3 hours. I haven't yet ridden the train but it has very limited stops. I assume they just mean roads in general but I don't see how it's all that great.

Here's another problem.... where in the are they going to even BUILD the track without SOS or some other environmental whacko going completely nuts?

To be honest, in Indy we won't miss them. Personally, I'll miss the 18,000 rpm, pneumatic-valve symphony, but I'll comfort myself by going to MotoGP.

According to the latest news this race is looking more and more like it won't happen. Guess we should have seen that coming when they announced the NJ race. It's a shame because I think the US (and North America as a whole) could support both races.
