Replacement gas tank only has one hole on the side?

What gives? I thought most parts are swappable among all 08-12 models.

So my 2012 tank has two holes on the side that's bth connected to some plastic piece.

The 08 tank I ordered only has one hole.

Thoughts? Advice?

You have emissions junk while your replacement doesn't. Unless you live in California, I would just plug it/cap it.

Which one would I be plugging? Then would I just use the hose that came with the replacement tank and scrap that white piece/ hose?

EDIT: I thought cali models had three holes?

Yeah I just saw a few post and it says that the cali tanks have three nipples on the side.

Ugh. I hope I don't have to do all that kleen air emission blocking off crap.

I'm pretty sure my bike's a 49-state bike....I live in NY. No way would they have shipped a cali model here, would they?

Yep looks like my bike is indeed a 49-state model. I looked at both '08 and '12 models part diagrams and it does indeed show what I'm seeing; '08 has one nipple, '12 has two.

What the eff?

Sure they would depending on where you bought it. If I had a cali tank on ebay and a gent from NY wants to buy it, I got not problem with that. Shipped....

Reference KKims clean air delete thread and block it all off. You should only have to deal with the tank bits though.

I just looked at the parts diagram though, its evident both tanks came off 49 state models.

Is there a chance 2012 models implemented some sort of clean air system on the 49-state models as a standard feature?

EDIT: Also...It came from PA. Lol. I mean I know there is a chance someone drove their cali bike here and parted it out but still....

Either way, you don't need to worry. It's just a overflow drain/vent. Disconnect the lower hose and pull it up and connect it to your gas tank and forget about it.

I'm not sure what's the thought process behind the reservoir? Maybe to prevent gas from excessively leaking out by a vacuum in the event the bike is on it's side for an excessive amount of time?

I wish I could confirm that. I even spoke with the dealership and he said he didn't know what's the purpose of that.

That's my plan, just connect the left over hose and scrap the plastic piece....Or maybe put aside next to m stock muffler. Lol

Thanks for the assurance.
