ZX-10 Exhaust Mod

So my racing clubs requirement for 250 class is a stock exhaust, stock exhaust from any bike and meet sound limits (92db)

Lucky enough, a zx10 muffler was at the shop where my race bike was getting some work. Did a quick test fit and thought it might work, problem would be the inlet on the muffler was huge compared to the stock header, 2.25" to 1" (maybe even smaller on the outlet of the stock header pipe). And the stock header isn't long enough without a long reducer pipe at a funky bend angle.

Ended up winning a full Area P exhaust system on fleabay, to run at track days. Then realized the area p header has a 1.75" header outlet, making the fit a bit closer. The Area P header is also longer, mocked it back up on the bike, and fit was pretty close.

Got a 2.25" to 1.75" exhaust reducer pipe from Napa for $5.

I wanted to run my area-p exhaust still, so got a welder to help cut off the angled outlet pipe on the zx10 muffler and reducer pipe fitted on. Bolts right up using the header clamp from the area-p exhaust system.

The mounting tab was moved on the zx10 muffler a bit forward to fit the stock peg mounting bracket.
Here's the pipe in action. Exhaust note is fantastic, not as low or loud as the short area-p carbon muffler, bit more raw sounding.

Weight wise, zx10 pipe is pretty light, alot of guys in 250 class are running gsxr factory Titanium pipes. It's not as light as the area P exhaust, about half pound heavier.

kinda odd that it has to be an oem from any bike... i could see regulating the noise level but you cant swap headers?

Yah it is weird. You can swap headers. I think they wanted to allow other non club bikes to come race, that usually run with a aftermarket system, to run within the noise limits, and I guess stock pipe ruling was implemented.

Hey, as long as you're happy with it. It's not my cup of tea though.
