Engine Won't Get Gas
Hey all, I bought my 2007 250 about 4 months ago and had no issues with the bike. About two months in, the engine would kill while rolling up to a stop sign. I just adjusted the idle up and it was fine for a couple weeks before it started doing the same thing again. I eventually just rode it without letting the idle drop too low and finally decided to clean out the carbs, thinking it would solve the issue. The carbs didn't seem dirty at all so I spayed cleaner through all of the passages, re assembled it, and gave it a try. I got it to start but it died shortly after. I tried it again and I couldn't get it to work. If I let it sit for a few hours and try again it'll do the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll want to do the gas-cap mod.
Also measure vacuum going to petcock at idle and 3000 RPMs |

Compensating by turning up the idle (in order to avoid stall due to clogged pilot circuits) is a classic symptom and reaction.
Visual cleanliness, though important, is not the final determination on whether hidden circuits are clear...even partial clogging can have effects. IMHO...you really need compressed air (minimum) along with cleaner to expect truly positive results clearing the pilot circuits.

Make sure the carbs are completely clean. Like soak in a bucket of carb cleaner for a while like 15 minutes and then spray carb cleaner through it to make sure everything got flushed out or some people do boiling water to save money or thinks it works better.
Completely drain oil, new filter and clean out the oil screen. Spark plugs is a must too, NGK CR8HSA. Empty out old gas, make sure petcock is clean too or rebuild it. Run some seafoam through it to help clean out anything in the engine too. |
