What is the biggest animal you have hit on a bike?
Riding to work today, I see a flash in the upper left hand field of vision and then BAM! Hit in the chest by a bird of some sort doing 100-110km/hr. All I know was it was black and white, and of decent size (hope it was a magpie).
Felt like being hit in a pretty decent tackle and was lucky I didn't come off. Was large enough to hit a section of my chin guard and twist my helmet too. So, what is the biggest animal you have hit on the bike and lived to tell the tale? |

Ummmm, a bug gooey enough to splatter it's guts all over my entire field of vision.
Thankfully, aside from bugs, no animal has met my bike. Now my truck? A herd of deer, at least three came into contact with my front bumper.

Frog, squirrel, possom.
If you can eat it in one sitting, stand the bike up and hit it. Other than that, avoid!! |

I hit a deer with my 600 Ninja. I was told it had 8 points. I never saw it, animal control took the carcass before the ambulance arrived.

I was attacked by a raccoon posse. I missed the initial onslaught of two raccoons but took the third and fourth under my rear wheel. No more night riding through wooded areas for me. Sure as hell glad I wasn't in the middle of a lean.

Not an animal but I hit a mosquito that left a 3 inch diameter splatter on my front fairing that splashed up and left a 2 inch long blood and guts smear on my helmet.
I'm not sure what kind of bug is that large but I'm glad I didn't see it when it was alive. |

worst i've hit is a bug that covered green goo over the left side of my helmet which was really bad since my left eye is the good one, at 20/20 with the right being at 20/60 (I really need to get a pair of glasses that don't fog up... legally i'm not required to wear glasses while operating a motor vehicle) |

I've kicked* a couple dogs while riding a bicycle. Been fortunate not to hit them though.
People get so uptight when you kick their dogs. Sheesh. Keep your dog in your yard and teach it not to jump at brand new paint jobs and maybe I won't have to unclip and kick it. *Not talking a kick like I was clearing a soccer ball 50+ yards, just a swift and firm swat to get them away. |

Hey, it's better to clear the animal out of the way than to hit it and risk a) killing it and b) getting injured. I have a short list of acceptable reasons to eat pavement; pets are not one of them.

I've taken a small bird to the chest at 65 mph, don't know what kind. Have ran over a squirrel.
I don't count bug splatters. |

A rider on track in front of me took a bird to the helmet somewhere near a buck 20 and it didn't even faze him. I on the other hand.... got a visor full of blood spatter and feathers.

Most spectacular near miss was a red kite (type of hawk) that cleared my helmet by about 2 inches, lifted a rabbit from the side of the road & flew off without missing a beat.
Other than that I've hit a human, hi-5ed a UCD douchebag type student as they stuck their hand out for the bus behind me, his mates nearly pissed themselves laughing. 40mph slap stings quite a bit. Only thing to go under my wheels was a rabbit, despite the best efforts of wood-pigeon, sheep, deer, small yappy dogs & probably a whole lot more. |

Another motorcyclist, he was overtaking me on a bend, he hit a car coming the other way, he flew over the car and landed in the road only a few feet in front of me. I went over his legs, the impact knocked me off my bike, followed by a 70 mph slide and roll down the road not to be recommended.

Critterz
The biggest animal I have hit was a dog. Crashed and burned my Honda 90 when I was 15. I have hit dogs, cats, possums, raccoons, squirrels, birds, bugs, and one narrowly missed an alligator that my buddy did hit.
Most memorable other than the dog that crashed me: Bird strike to the helmet nearly knocked me out, a junebug to the throat at the dragstrip at nearly 175mph on my old Top Gas Kawasaki, and living in Florida, riding on a road between two orange groves in the spring in full bloom, collected like 20 bee hits. You can't go 50 feet here without hitting something, especially at night. The new menace is feral hogs. One of my friends crashed his R1 Sunday when he hit one maybe 80 pounds. Bike totaled. He dislocated his hip, broke 3 fingers, cracked a vertebrae. If he had not been wearing the very best gear, it would have been worse, the spine guard saved him from paralysis, and the leather kept his skin in place. When he came off the bike, he was thrown into an Armco barrier at about 80mph. |

I hit a deer a few months ago and it pooped all over me and my bike:
A local Sheriff had to come out and put the deer out of its misery. Its rear leg got caught in my spokes and ripped its leg off. Not very fun... |
