My 250 Track/Race bike build
It's been a slow evolution but I'm getting much closer to completion! I bought a 2012 250R in 2012 with the intention of converting it for the track almost immediately. I bought virtually everything I needed; race fairings, spare wheels/tires/rains, etc, etc, etc. The problem though; I was having so damn much fun zipping around the city that it took until this past summer to finally begin the conversion! There was also the not so small distraction of hunting via the back roads here in BC for hot springs hidden throughout the province with my loaded Dual Sport F800GS!
Anyhoo... Now that I’ve broken her in properly with 5000 kms on the ODO; first upgrade was the suspension front & rear. I'm a big guy! Had my local suspension guru select the springs/coil, put a valve in the forks and handed me an Ohlins shock with remote reservoir. Took a few hours of staring at it before finally deciding to slot the passenger peg bracket to accept the hose clamps that tie the reservoir to the frame! Glad I did it: it works beautifully and neatly! In fact; I could think of no other way to secure it properly! Next were proper shoes; 140 Rosso ll on the rear & 110 Supercorsa on the front. I’ll save some typing, poor storytelling and just list stuff done so far: K&N flat air filter (removed the snorkel) Re-jetted / sync’d the carbs for the track 13/49 sprockets Woodcraft Clip-ons Motion Pro quick throttle (I’m old; easier on my wrist!) Scotts Steering Dampener Woodcraft Rearsets (going to change them on the recommendation of the Ninjette collective – I need more adjustment!) Modified the chain guard and converted to GP shift EBC Floating rotor & HH pads front & rear Galfer SS Brake lines Pirelli rains mounted on rims with rotors & rear sprocket (quick swap & go!) Raised my seat 1 ˝” which gives me a little more leg room! Tank grips No Drill Sliders (I don’t like the “readyrod” bolts that came with it. I’m going to source correct length, proper bolts to replace them) Hydraulic hose wraps on muffler (best & cheapest “sliders” for muffler) I’ve run her on 4 track days since August; serviced &fine-tuned the suspension so she is dialed in with beautiful handling and wear patterns on both front & rear tires! From braking to exit; she feels wonderful and so frikkin much fun! Who needs a 600!!! Next on the agenda this winter is to strip all that is unnecessary (calling @InvisiBill wiring services!) and install my freshly painted, never been used race bodywork! We have a local manufacturer http://www.flexi-glass.com/ that has made a nice set of race glass for the 08-12 250R. I had a great deal from my local trade school: they needed a paint shop class project so they painted it up with a super high quality gloss black finish! Then only items left to be done for my needs are safety wiring & water wetter and check the valve and cam chain adjusters! I’m going to rebuild my bike trailer too but it’s a simple little trailer; a weekend job. Here’s some pictures of the “bike build” (If I can figure out how to attach Album pictures!)

Nice work!
Your muffler slider on the bottom will probably drag at some point. mine started dragging on the bottom corner without anything there so im sure the rubber will. |

I really dig those grips, assuming you cut them out of sheet from techspec? Care to share the template you used?

Edit: yes: tech spec snakeskin But yes; out of sheet. I just traced the tank and trimmed it until I was happy with the fit then traced it onto the remainder of the sheet. Took maybe 15 minutes total

Flexiglas doesn't list the 250 or 300 in the product list. Was your's a one off?

Our local kart track only allows 250's so virtually all our local racers run 250's.
