Carb diaphragm install
Who's got the trick to installing these? I've done it on a handful of other bikes and it's always tricky, but never this bad. I've got it over the first lip (I think about 1/3 of the way).
It's been sitting in the sun to soften it up and it's also got some lube on it. No luck. |

What seems to be the problem? They should seat just fine in their hole and lie in the recessed lip around the top. Should be a no brainer if you take your time.

If your hands cannot make them slide smoothly, little changes of vacuum won't.

Thanks. I agree with your sentiment about slight vacuum changes not being an issue if I can't get them in. They're overlapped past the first lip, but I can't get them any farther. I started trying to push it in with miscellaneous thin objects, but it didn't seem like a good idea.

Now you are trying to install the diaphragm back into the side? This is what I had to do. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=123535 I think I may have figured another way for you. In a tube of hot soapy water, try adjusting the diaphragm rotating and tugging on it and hopefully the lips to "pop" into the groves in the cap of the slide. Make sure you wash off all the soap too.

I saw that thread of yours while searching around and determined you were nuts! The method you're suggesting now is essentially what I was doing, except it was warm WD-40. |
