Long story short;
I'd like to run and electric vest + gloves+ socks... Is there a way to do something to the 'jette that even a guy with EXTREMELY limited wrenching experience...moi...can do ? Used my Gerbring tables and the gloves alone take me...within..maybe 17 watts or amps or something of what the bike puts uot. |

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31087 Basically, you can count on about 70 to 80 watts available. Much more than that is pushing things. The vest alone, at 100% power is a little over 70 watts. You can certainly hook up socks, gloves, + the vest, but you'd be running at a deficit if they were all at 100%. It's cake to hook up, the easiest solution is to run a cable straight to the battery under the seat, and have it peek out near where you can plug a lead in from your jacket. The variable heat controller from Gerbing is a necessity, on/off isn't enough choice, when on gets *steaming* hot in a short period of time.

I just wired up a 12v 30A relay (with fuse inbuilt into the relay) for my wideband gauge...overkill, nevertheless very easy and I mounted it under the petrol tank with a spare bolt.
The very minimum you'll need to wire anything up is a phillips head screwdriver (to take off the black plastic side pieces and work with the battery), allen key (to take off the seat), some thick wire and tape (although if you can solder and have heatshrink it would be better). All up you'll have to take off 7 screws (2 side, 2 seat, 1 battery box, 2 terminals). As for the actual wiring of a relay (just to give you an idea) it will be 4/5 wires: + 12v to your relay (from your battery) - ground to your relay (from your battery or frame) 'switch' wire to your relay (e.g from your ignition...when you turn the key = power to your relay) + 12v to whatever you want to power If you need help wiring it up or choosing a relay etc just PM me. |
