Alternative Way To Access The Battery?
Hello...
My 2008 250 was stolen, years ago. It was recovered and, aside from some broken plastics, hasn't given me a lick of trouble. They keyed out the ignition, but the tank was fine, so I just had the ignition replaced. When I picked the bike up, from the shop, I saw that that rear seat tumbler was also keyed out. I hadn't noticed it and the shop never mentioned it. So, my battery is 10 years old and finally bit it (spent about 15 minutes trying to start it). Unfortunately, I never installed terminal tails and I can't get the rear seat off. Is there another way to get to the battery? I could always break the plastics and seat, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I want to replace the battery and get back to riding. Hehehe... JJ |

I thought there was a way to pop the rear seat off if that key lock wasn't working, but it's escaping my memory at the moment. Hopefully somebody else here remembers.

Wait - battery access is under the front seat! Don't you just need to pop off those small panels on the side of the seat, and then unscrew the two bolts holding the seat on?

You'll need to get the rear seat off at some point for something, but shouldn't be needed for this.

I took the side plastics off and unbolted the front seat, but it seems like it is attached at the rear of the seat.
I'm not sure how it is attached, but I was not able to disconnect it. Any ideas? JJ |

Unbolt both sides?
Then lift rear and slide to back. |

Hmm, ok, no lifting rear then. Grab both front corners and pull towards back.
Or grab opposite diagonal corners and wiggle/rotate as you pull towards back? |

The front seat has two plastic "pegs" at the rear underside of the seat. Once the seat is unbolted from the sides it needs a firm tug/wiggle towards the rear of the bike and it should pop out. Tug firmly in a linear motion then wiggle/lift up on the front seat. Should pop right out.

I thought the bolts were all that were holding it in place. I didn't realize you had to move it backwards. Thanks... JJ |
