Wrecked pretty good this morning

Hey guys, I've been a member forever and read the threads daily but have never posted. I guess now's a decent time cause I'm waiting at the ER. Well I was approaching my neighborhood going down a hill going a little but to fast, acting cocky like a fool. I approached the turn at about 15 mph, the rear wheel started to slide sideways like a drift then right as it hit that devil white line, swoop. Next thing I know the bike is on top of me and I'm sliding. I came to a stop and realized I couldn't move my left arm. I had never broke anything so it was quite a weird feeling. Luckily I was at the start of my neighborhood and my neighbor pulled up and helped me get the bike up cause there was no way in hell I could have got it up one handed. Also the person i shook my head at for ALMOST pulling out in front of me a few hundred feet back pulled up which made me feel like a buffoon and asked if I was alright. The bikes right turn signal is gone and the right handle bar is bent way the hell in, Also there may be a fuel leak. I called my biker buddy Ben who lives down the street and he ran down to me and pushed my wrecked bike a quarter mile to my house. It made me feel very blessed to have friends who would do things like that for me. In short I learned to not take corners fast, like even a little fast. It's not worth it, I'm glad all I got away with was a broken arm and messed up knees. Be safe out there fellow bikers

Can't say you didn't deserve it if you were going too fast. But maybe you'll learn from this?

I take it you were not wearing proper gear considering you never mention gear, and you managed to break your arm at 15mph?

I was in jeans, tennis shoes and my padded icon jacket and helmet of course. I landed on my elbow and the bone went up and into my shoulder splitting it into a bunch of pieces and yes I definitely learned

Welcome to the forum. Sorry that had to be your first post.

Were you braking for the corner with your rear brake vs. the front? How could you prevent the rear from stepping out like that?

+1 for admitting you were riding a little cocky. Heal quickly.

Jeff

15 mph isn't too fast for any turn i know on earth to be honest. Are you sure it wasn't something else that caused the accident?

I guess as I was approaching the turn I realized I was going way to fast and locked the rear brake accidently. honestly it felt more like 25-30 but you don't really think about that kind of thing while your sliding into a turn way to fast

I appreciate it Chris and thunder pipes you are correct, I will never enter a turn at high speeds again, especially the one leading into my neighborhood where I crashed. But I did get some hydros so I feel much better than I did a few hours ago

Glad they got you something quick i laid there with a broken right femur and left tibia (t boned by a drunky on my 07 250 while sitting at a stop sign.) for 2 hours before they gave me some liquid loritab. Up till that point i have never taken a pain med in my life. Well to make a long story short I now know I am highly allergic to loritab, stops my lungs from kickin.

Good to hear your okay. Often it seems as if we only learn when there are repercussions but its better than not learning at all. I wonder if there's a way to learn without repercussions.

Is it rude to ask for pics of x-rays?

Pics of x-rays? :P

Have a speedy recovery bud.

I have the X-ray pictures in a folder I have to take to the clinic Monday. I have no idea how I would upload the pics though?

If you have a flat bed scanner that should work, alternatly get a white screen on your computer, use ms paint or a blank text editor or something, turn up the backlight if on a laptop, put it against the screen and take a photo, same works for windows butnuse a piece of thinish white paper between the window and the xray.

One idea for the X-rays, stick them up in a window and use your camera (without flash) to take a picture of them. Windows work great in the absence of a light box.

--opps, same bit of advice. Though the white paper may or may not be needed depending on what's out your window.

Good idea about using the window for the pictures and last night I went down the same hill in my car and entered my neighborhood. I must have been doing well over 15 mph. 15 mph felt like usual so I figure realistically I was doing 25-35 and no the BT-45 Bridgestone tires

Shoulder injuries suck too. Took me 2 years to get back to "normal" and I didn't even have broken bones. Just a torn ACL. I still have some numbness in mine.

Best of luck and stick to your PT.

Sorry to hear about this as your first post - glad you're sort of okay and gutsy to post up your mistakes. Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse talking about gear and practicing. Your post is much more effective - nice job sharing it. Thanks and speedy recovery.

Welcome to the ****ed up shoulder club, I bounced down the road at 50mph almost 3 years ago, severely dislocated my shoulder & it only stopped hurting about 18 months in, still acts up occasionally.

Physio/rehab exercises hurt like a mofo...

Ride safe

Heal up soon.

Why haven't you posted before now?!! You seem like a friendly dude: ninjette.org needs your friendly vibes

Also... don't brake hard and turn and definitely don't lock up the rear wheel and then try to turn!!!
(though I'm sure @massacremasses with his supamoto and dirt bikes will disagree!)
