Well, my Ninjette has finally been put to rest...

Nothing too exciting really, there was a windstorm here and it was parked in the back of my condo. My buddy sent me a message at work telling me that my baby had dropped and sent a pic. I was surprised to see my motorcycle dropped about 10 feet from where it was parked It did have a habit of dropping into neutral at inconvenient times, this was one of them. Anyways, the insurance totaled it and the price they gave me was too much to pass up. I needed an excuse to buy a 300 anyways, but I will always miss my little ninjette.

Thanks to johnny I noticed the 10 ft drop, I don't think that being in neutral helped much. I typically park in neutral too out of convenience so that strikes me as a reason to remember to park in 1st on an incline.

Ouch, yeah, neutral is dangerous enough but on an incline it's asking for trouble. Sorry for your loss. Shocked it was totaled though; have you considered buying it back as a track bike maybe? I can't imagine the frame is damaged.

I don't ever really use neutral, except warm up, park in first then hit the killswitch. MSF teaches you to always keep it in first even at stop signs/ red lights incase you have to make a quick get away. Also tells you to put it in first when parked.

Sorry, I didn't think to take pics. I didn't think they would have totaled it. I could have bought it back for 800, but the entire right side fairings (as in all of them) would have needed to be replaced. It completely bent the right slider into the fairing. I was thinking of getting it back as a track bike, but taking the check gets me closer to a 300.

I never park mine in neutral, I'm not quite sure why it was in neutral except that my transmission had a tendency to drop into neutral a lot (even while riding, once from 3rd gear, super annoying). Thats the best I can assume unless someone decided to jump on it for fun to check it out...

I Keep a live strong band hanging on my brake reservoir and put it around the handle bar and front break as an extra parking break...

Call me crazy , paranoid, ridiculous.

Bars turned and locked in first with a rubber band depressing the front break.

thats about as parked as a bike can get without a rotor lock and wheel stands

sorry for the ninjette but a 300 sounds like a good idea!

That's not 'bad' for the brake system, is it?

I haven't had a problem yet. And I haven't seen anyone else have an issue with it.

who knows. - is pulling the front breaks bad for the breaks? thats basically All I am doing. I guess it might cause the piston not to release under certain circumstances or possible cause premature pad wear. But I don't leave it that way all the time. Mostly just on incline or in sketchy lots.

is good insurance pay more than bike actually cost, or maybe only good insurances do it. I had bought my 250 as used from some guy, rode it for about 20 months almost daily. months after the accident when I was able to call, but they did send notice of how much they were planning on paying and showing how they came out for that price right after the accident. we talked, they send paper for me to sign and send back, then they sent me a check and I got almost 1400 more than I had spend to buy the bike. plus it had much more mileage, lol. I bought the bike maybe with 2k miles and when insurance paid me, it had about 22k miles
