There's nothing wrong with being safe. But you can go overboard on anything. One of the Arai execs has a more forgiving opinion than what MSF shares, and his company has more knowledge of helmet safety than any of us bickering in online forums. Check out this thread: I dropped my helmet... for some good links, including one to a video with the helmet exec and Jay Leno that describes what they feel would make a helmet unsafe.

That's the kawi neutral finder feature. It won't let the shifter go past neutral into second unless the bike is moving. If the bike is moving and it still won't go into second, only then would it indicate a problem.

Moving moving? Or just the rear wheel spinning? Trying to recall if I've successfully shifted into 2nd and up during my rebuild while the bike was up on the rear stand.

Been too long so just checking.

Thank you guys. Idk if this is bad, but whenever I forced it to go up, it flipped upwards (perpendicular to the ground). Is that bad? I'm an idiot lol

That's a really good video, that's a must see for riders.

I grew up in a family of riders, son of 2 MSF instructors who started riding in the early 70s so they knew a lot of people getting hurt or worse as riding in America became more mainstream. I remember a friend of the family who was an x-ray (maybe ultrasound) tech who would check out friends' helmets after drops saying that he could see cracks in either the shell of about every other one, that weren't visible. Given, he only got to see them if the owner was already worried about it, and just because there's a tiny hairline crack doesn't mean the helmet doesn't still offer a lot of protection. But 50/50 isn't the kind of odds I'm willing to put my brain into.

If it's hit asphalt with a melon in it, it definitely needs to go in the trash. The Arai guy didn't dispute that.

Thanks guys I'm so stoked!!!! However, until the MSF course "graduation" I'll only be riding extremely local roads that I know very well. Unless, I'm with a much more experienced rider. Well too all: a goodnight.

This article should be read by each inexperienced rider:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=121405

With or without your sympathy or acceptance, millions of riders around the world don't have access to jackets or helmets and a good portion of them ride for many years without having a motorcycle accident.

Many riders in USA, if the law gives them the option, ride unprotected as well.
Before any related law existed, helmets and suits were things only seen in official races.

Take a look at this thread and observe how well protected the rider was:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=143200

I am not against protecting gear, but I know their limitations in effectiveness.
I wear mine, but I know that only my skills can keep me alive and in one piece.
Helmets are effective protection up to 30 mph, or so are tested.
Cordura will last for a couple of seconds.
Your shoulder CA protector cannot avoid a fractured collar bone.

Riders only crash when they fail to control the machine properly and when they fail to fully understand the surroundings.
I'd like to watch the horrific video... but the video has been taken down
