2014 Nutcracker 200 Dual Sport ride.

A few weeks ago a friend told me about this ride in Logan, OH. It looked like a fun time and wasn't very far away, plus I'm always looking to get more off road riding in. I watched some videos on youtube and it didn't look like anything I couldn't handle and I figured that since it was for plated bikes only that the trails couldn't be that rough... I was wrong!!! I was in over my head on this one. I still had a fun time, but these were some of the hardest trails that I've ever ridden.

I've never done an event like this before so I expected to be challenged. The first day was over 100 miles of riding with about 40 of that being off road. That's more miles than I'm used to riding off road. Combined with the intensity of the trails it was a little more than I could handle, and I had to cut the first leg of that day short. I still got about 90 miles total in and about 30 dirt miles.

The second day included a 22 mile single track loop. I was so sore and drained from the first day that I could only complete the first few miles before I had to give up. I just wasn't prepared for the difficulty of this event and am not used to this many hard off road miles.

I still had a blast though and plan on doing another dual sport ride next month. My friend couldn't go with me, but I still had no problem finding other people to ride with when I could keep up. lol

I did get some video footage early on, but couldn't get my camera mounted securely enough, so the footage is really shaky. I'll see if I can post some screen captures to give an idea of what the ride was like.

The next one that I plan on doing is the Baby Burr. Apparently it's the best dual sport ride of the year in the area according to the other guys that I talked to.

Hopefully my buddy Erik will be able to go as well, either way I can't wait.

They actually did allow MX bikes at this one since they had a 22 mile singletrack loop that you could ride.

They had a separate "Adventure route" for the bigger bikes. That route was mostly pavement with a few gravel and service roads mixed in. The biggest bike that I saw on the dual sport route was that XR650 in the last pic, but it was mostly smaller enduro bikes on that route.

Haha, well I'm sure it could be done on the KLR but I wouldn't want to try it.

This looks like so much fun!

I'm always impressed with where the KLR will take me, but this looks like an absolute blast with a smaller bike!

That looks fun!!! I should really get into dirt riding. I need a dual-sport! My SM KLX doesn't do well offroad. I should pick up a DRZ400.
