Can you live happily without a motorcycle?

I'm just curious if I am the only one out there that just feels like their life would be boring without a motorcycle in it. Its hard for me when no one else in my family is an avid motorcycle enthusiast, to explain to them that to me a motorcycle is a need regardless of financial cost rather than a want (sure you can survive without one but who would want to?)

It would be very difficult. Been on two wheels in some shape or fashion my whole life. Back as far as when I was in preschool and just learned to ride a little BMX bike it was like I found instant freedom. It would be very difficult to imagine living without that freedom.

Rick I'm gonna have to agree with you. But for me, words can't explain the feeling of enjoyment that I experience when I'm riding.

BLASPHEMY................. you should be hung for suggesting such a thing. Ok, granted this is my first bike and I'm still a newb with less then 500 miles so far. However, since getting down here in Orlando I haven't touched my car except to turn in the Uhaul trailer. I've grown to love my little ninjette and would only give it up if I was dead.

I did from 99 to 09. That was a long 10 years. It is so nice to be back on a bike again.

When I moved overseas to teach, I had no wheels for about 18 months. That was the longest period since 1992 I've gone without a ride. I eventually got some serious fever to get back on a bike and bought a little Chinese 200cc bike. That bike wasn't fancy but it was great to be back on a bike again!

I don't think I could very easily. Gets me to and from work faster and cheaper than anything else (car, public transport etc) and when I have had a bad day or just feel like a ride, I get on and ride, then I feel like there is no worries, till I get off

No. I went a few years without a bike and it sucked. Now I have a bike again and I'm a happy camper.

Would I be able to live happily?

Absolutely not - you can't beat the sense of freedom you get when it's just you, your bike, and the road curving over the horizon.

Well i went from September to April waiting for my '09. Horrible time. The only reason i would give up my bike for a few years is when i start a family( in good time, no rush to)

I lived happily for 13 years without a motorcycle. I did have go karts, motorbikes, a scooter, and mini bikes back then. I've been lucky to have a motorcycle ever since I was 13 though.

LOL, like your avatar animation.

Well, I only started motorcycling a few months ago, and I'm 25, so I did fine without one. But now that my motorcycle is in the workshop, I'm really missing it already.

I probably could but I'd have to replace it with some other project. A car, computers, boats, something else.

I started with cars. Then had a phase where i was into going out on the boat so i had all of the lake gear. After I got mono I was under strict bed rest so I got into computers. I finally got a bike after always wanting one. Looks like I'm about to get another car so I'll be into cars and bikes.

The two years that I endured from when my old Suzuki died, until I could afford to buy my Concours, seemed torturous at times. Other than that, I've always had one or two bikes available during the last 26 years.

If I HAD to give up my ninja, then I'd get a dual sport or offroad only bike. That way I could hit up some trails and such. I refuse to not own a motorcycle anymore. They are just awesome. You can't beat a motorcycle. I don't care if it is a Bugatti Veyron, motorcycles are still better. I don't have to be going fast to enjoy myself on a bike.

That's how I feel. My car is a 17-year old Pontiac. I find it's a very useful box on wheels, but I just don't get passionate about cars. My best friend asked me yesterday, "When are you going to sell that piece of crap and buy a nicer car?"

I said to her, "If that car ever breaks down, I'll just go buy another cheap beater. If I spend a lot of money on a vehicle, it'll be a nicer motorcycle, not a car!"

once i owned my first motorcycle...i just KNEW i'd be riding for as long as life let me. time in between having my first, second and now third street bike found me renting from the local harley tourist rental just to keep mr. jones away.
but after suffering a stroke last year feb., and difficulties with dizziness after that....the thought that i may never ride again ... to put it plainly...SUCKED.
i'm fortunate to have been able to recover just about fully from the effects of the stroke, and as soon as i started work again, i looked for, and found my 3rd ride.
can i live happily without?...if i had to, i could LIVE...but damm it just wouldnt be the same.

I thought this study was done by JD Powers. It was Allstate.

Virtually all hardcore riders answered they would give up their spouse or significant other before their motorcycle, according to the recent results of a consumer study commissioned by Allstate Insurance Company. Also, riders across all classifications were twice as likely to give up their television sets before their motorcycles - a testament to the passion many Americans feel for their bikes and riding.

I guess that says it all.

Anyone here "hardcore"?
