beware...They're really out to kill you....!!!!
I used to think that the riders who complained about cagers trying to kill them on the road were exaggerating a bit, until I get a taste of it myself "just now". I picked up my bike from the mechanics a few hrs ago. it was running lean and the tank was rusty to the point where the bike was having a hard time running well. It runs great now.. I never experienced the true power of the bike until now.. being a new rider, I always thought the little hiccups was my fault.. anyway, that's another story for another time. on my way back from the mechanics, I stopped at a gas station to put some gas. that's when **** started to happen to me.. I had this guy merging into my line while he's on the ****ing phone. I'm pretty sure if he looks to the side, he would've seen me.. it's like I was invisible to the sucker... as if that weren't enough, later in the same trip another guy merged into my lane again. this time I was doing 55 mph. I'm starting to think that people don't respect motorcyclists enough. from the look I got from that guy, it seemed like he underestimated the speed of the bike.. He really thought I wouldn't get to him that fast. he merged and stopped right in front of me. Thank God, I used to practice stopping with both brakes, and I was able to slow down enough...
You don't know how bad and careless people are when driving until you get on a motorcycle. I've been riding for about a month if that counts for anything.... |

Try to change your riding habits to accomodate and keep out of those potential accident situations, Always think : "What if this car does this, I'll do this if he does." always assume they will do something sudden!

1) you are invisible, it is not personal
2) if they do see you, they have no perspective of how fast you are traveling, most especially if you are accelerating faster then most cars. 3) out of 10,000 cars, one or two will be out to get you, just out of jail and/or on there way to jail Good news is it gets easy to avoid them all. |

Jiggles. I see your point, but I think your sarcasm might get lost here.
RJprod, it's good that you saw this with your own eyes because motorcycles are just inherently more dangerous than cars. You have to ride defensively and be proactive in avoiding danger. That being said, don't over react to other traffic. Getting mad is just going to cloud your judgement for the rest of your ride. Road rage never ends well when a motorcycle is involved. Also, I'm of the opinion that if you're consistently getting into situations with traffic like this, you maybe need to evaluate your riding. |

Yea, I like to think that I suddenly develop the superpower of being invisible whenever I get onto my bike. Most people aren't trying to kill you; they're just not being diligent enough to notice you. I think looking at it like you're invisible vs everyone's out to get you helps eliminate the escalation into road rage.

people in cars are generally stupid...its really that simple..yeah its a huge generalization, but when youre on a motorcycle and you see everything going on around you, you realize just how stupid these people are.
Hell just 2 days ago i saw some dumb blonde bitch stuffing her face with a burrito AND on her phone at the same time, all while switching through 2 lanes of traffic, without using her turn signal...she almost got hit by some derpy redneck in a ford2500 (who was goin a good 20mph over.) Majority of people on the road should not be allowed anywhere near vehicles tbh. |

Ok who here didn't predict that black car moving over on him. It was obvious the guy just got on the freeway and was looking to merge to the fast lanes. Dude should have head checked the on ramp and just matched his speed to let the guy have room. Too busy blabbing into his mic

Knew what was going to happen nearly immediately....I've been through that type of situation too many times, so I've learned what signs to look for. It also comes down to predicting what someone may do and then taking measures to get away in the event it really does happen. I never hang in people's blind spots, that's one of the biggest things to keep an eye on.
But there will be sometimes you just can't predict people, you just have to be ready for them. As much as I would hate to, I profile drivers a lot...meaning I look at the type of vehicle, condition of the vehicle, race, age and what the driver is doing. I'm not racist at all, but no offense african american drivers here in savannah cause the most accidents. I'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when most the "butt pucker" moments I've had, were caused by old people and African Americans. So knowing that, I apply my experience to avoid those types of drivers. Now if I go to Ohio, then it's all the soccer moms and red neck trucks. I just hate I have to be so mean to people when I ride, but I've got to protect myself. Ok, end of rant...keep your heads on a swivel guys!! |

They're not trying to kill you.
They're trying to kill Jiggles. You're just riding too close to him. Even though he's 2,800 miles away. |

on my daily commutes (i ride an Aprilia 1000 twin) i ride as though i'm on the track (kinda) - ya, probably a bit brisk and extreme, but FOCUSED. i think riding with that mentality heightens your senses and awareness, and removes the lacksidasical attitude that can get riders in trouble. i've been riding on the street for 32 years (holy crap) and can count the number of times "someone has tried to kill me" on one hand, and think it's mostly because i am actively LOOKING for those people while riding.

I know I've only been riding approx 10 months, but I have had very few near-death experiences with cagers. The worst was maybe twice people have pulled a leftie in front of me but I was prepared for both. The last one I locked the rear a little bit because some teen in a Prius u-turned in front of me (out of a no u-turn turn).
I expected worse so I've been super paranoid since I've started. I'm not letting my guard down! That's just what the cagers want! |

If cars are moving towards you, either slow down, speed up, or move away from them to put more distance between you and that big chunk of metal. You don't win anything by doing the stand your ground you shall not pass! thing aside from a possible trip to the hospital and a crunched up bike.
Slow down when you come up to an intersection. #9 on the Hurt Report's finding states "The most frequent accident configuration is the motorcycle proceeding straight then the automobile makes a left turn in front of the oncoming motorcycle". Don't stay in a car's blind spot. If you can't see the driver's mug in his mirror, he can't see you. Even when you can see his face, he might not look at his mirror before moving. Accident avoidance goes both ways most of the time. I stopped riding for a good 6 years before starting up again with the 250. After 8k miles I've had zero close-calls, and I don't exactly live in the middle of nowhere either (and I split lanes every chance I get). Your #1 responsibility when you're on the road is to keep your own ass in one piece. Don't think other people are gonna watch out for you; that's your job. Once you start acting that way everything will fall into place. |
