Non-racer, question about quickshift/auto-blip

Happened to see a video that makes me want to ask the racers here a question (wish I could post a link to the video but I had it shown to me on somebody else's computer while waiting around at an airport).

The video was racing footage shot with the camera positioned to show the rider's throttle/brake hand. It was pretty obvious the bike was equipped with a quickshift/auto-blip system because (from the viewpoint of a non-racer) while the bike was lapping the track, negotiating many different corners, braking and accelerating repeatedly, the throttle/brake hand just wasn't doing much work.

The question is this: Is this the way racing is done these days, has the quickshifter/auto-blip system now become just basic, must-have racing equipment?

Likely seen as a must-have. The tech is so cheap and easy to implement that there's no reason not to. I have the Healtech iQSE on my track bike. Installation wasn't quite as easy as boiling water, but not far from it. Works wonderfully well.

One thing I first learned when doing track days in cars many years ago is that ANYTHING that reduces your workload is a good thing to have. If you've never been on the track, the focus required can be surprisingly intense. It's actually difficult to find time to look at your gauges. That's why we have shift lights, and why many track riders tape over the speedo.

I presume this is regional and/or class specific or once you want to take your racing to the next level.

In my 250/300 club racing experience, it's been "mostly" stock bikes with the occasional "cheater" bikes. lol

Just 4h away at a different track, is the WERA racers, with any and every part put on and tweaked as best they can to win.

Must have???? Not yet, soon?!??!? Maybe.... Racing in the 600cc+ classes, your bike is somewhat expected to have such things. If the rider can effectively make use of them is a whole other matter.

Even for non-racers, apparently it's a nice feature. My roommate just bought a bike with a quick-shifter and he loves it.

The technical rider in me says... I can see quickshifters and auto blippers playing a role in helping keep things more smooth in wet/low traction street riding. The old school rider in me says... nah, learn to ride then let the tech help you.

Yin and yang I guess.
