Is the 300 rear wheel wider than the 250 17"?

I can't answer but there are at least four measurements to consider:

Rim width
Hub width
Sprocket offset
Axle diameter

Some, none or all may be the same.

Does the 300 run a 150 rear tire?

csmith12,

Are you using a 150 rear with the 4.0 inch wheel?

How close to the edge of the tire do you get?

The Dunlop A13 is a 150 rear. I leave about 1/4" of it untouched on the edge.

Sorry, I do not own a 300 so I can't comment from my own riding. Maybe a few of the 300 racers can comment on theirs. If I am remembering right from what I was told, in recent Nov. races there were a few 300 racers running 150's that were able to get to the edge.

@Sirref, did you see any 300's with 150's getting to the edge?

I run the 150 size Dunlop Alpha on my rear and I'm about 1-2mm from the edge

It happens but it's uncommon and track dependent

usually the cause is a very technical track or a slower rider who isn't carrying enough speed into the corner and is trying to hamfist his way out to make up for it which allows the tire to compress and use more of it

It did not happen to the turbo turtle racers or anyone else running 150 tires at jennings

Same here, but with Unbeaten 02's. It beats the alternative of running 140/70's and not having enough edge for your lean angle. Switching to A13's for this race season though, as soon as I use up the rest of my UB02's.

For what it's worth, I ran Unbeaten 02's on my supermoto with 4.25: rim, and I was able to get to the edge and past it. Little different riding style though, even though I am still knee out, and not foot out.

New to the forum, and to the Ninja 300, so forgive me if this topic has been beat to heck. I'm building a race bike, and looking for best sticky race tires...period.

I'm confused by the whole 140/150 rear tire debate I keep reading about in regards to the Ninja 300, and why there seems to be a trend that majority folks are not getting to the edge of 150 Alpha 13. Per Dunlop website, the preferred Alpha 13 rim width is a 4" rim, which is the Ninja 300 rim width. So, the Alpha 13 is made for the Ninja 300, and thus would be neither pinched nor stretch, no? Wouldn't it be a perfect fit, and allow to get to the edge?

Alternatively, the Pirelli Supercorsa SC in a 150 is also recommended for 4" rim. I have this exact tire for Supermoto track, where I get some wicked lower speed lean angles, and they stick like glue. Nice thing about the Supercorsa SC is the tread does not go all the way to the shoulder, so it has a wider slick area when leaned to the shoulder.

Would it not be beneficial to have a tire allowing lean angles all the way to the shoulder, where tire is stickest if dual compound. Not sure if Alpha 13 or Supercorsa SC dual compound though.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Lean angles on these small bikes are often not dictated by the tire but rather by the rearset position. Quite frankly, it really doesn't matter if you don't use the whole tire. IMO, it's better if you don't so you have just a little bit of insurance in case of an OH CRAP! If you use all the tire regularly, there's not much of a buffer there for any more.....
