fuel needle cleaning.

I am working on the abandoned nightmare of an 06 250, which i mentioned a couple of weeks ago. i have a question about cleaning the fuel needle, the piece the float pushes up and down. im guessing i canot put this in the chem-dip because of its rubber top, do i just need to spray it with carb cleaner and wipe it good? or is it actually safe to drop into the chem-dip cleaner.

its part # 16030 on this diagram

Copied from
https://www.berrymanproducts.com/pro...parts-cleaner/

"Fast-acting immersion cleaner for all metal parts, including alloys. Removes gum, varnish, sludge, carbon, and grease without heat or agitation. Non-chlorinated and nonflammable formula is VOC-compliant in all states. Safe on plastic and rubber and will not cause rusting. Use for cleaning carburetor and transmission components, valves, and other small, hard-to-clean engine parts."

You may want replacing those, as the tip tends to harden with time, especially if exposed to air.

Replacement is called for, these are consumable parts. That small viton tip wears out, the picture below shows old vs new. PM @ducatiman for you carburetor needs, he sells rebuilding kits, along side full services for carburetors.

Just a little tip: When I'm working on carbs, any carbs, that won't be going back together the same day, I leave the bowl seals and any other rubber or fiber parts covered w/Stabil until they're ready to assemble so they don't dry out.

IMHO...costing all of $6 ea ...BOTH float valves an automatic replacement during any carb refurb or comprehensive carb service....as do orings while carbs are off and you're in there.

If you leave the bike an excuse to do the job twice...you will.
