Can't find carb rebuild kit?

I haven't worked on carbs for ages and was surprised to learn that they put a lot more plastic than they did back in the day. Anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for the 2008+? The nomenclature for the carbs are CVK30's correct? Little worried that this might be too new to have the cheap part kits out...

kelly, i appreciate the link but i'm not looking for part specifics. i'm looking for a carburetor rebuild kit. they include many parts which commonly fail, makes it easy to troubleshoot, as even the smallest nick in an o-ring can derail the process. it's an easy out opposed to inspecting and possibly falsely troubleshooting a part, saves time and (usually) money. back in the day mgfr's made them for the bikes the day after the bike came out, now it looks like you have to order individual parts which is way too much money. usually ran about 20-40 bucks when i was doing it.

I've seen rebuild kits for the dellorto carbs on the dirt bikes I own, but I've never seen a rebuild kit for the carbs on the Ninja 250. If you find one, please include a link for future reference.

i know, i'm lost. i've searched and the only thing i've come across is kits for the old 250's, go figure. might have to have it sent to a specialist as they'll be able to restore them using generic or made parts for a price significantly less then a new pair. if anyone finds a source please let me know, thats the cheapest and easiest way...

I'm lost... why do you need to rebuild carbs that are relatively new?

because everything that was made of brass when i was wee one is now made of plastic. i removed all the usual suspects during an cleaning and destroyed the carbs. if you ever get a chance to work on an older bikes carbs you'll see the rather large difference in material... if i had the same problem 10 years ago solder and a grinder would have put me on the road. i guess it saves kawi some money to do things this way though. i've been riding fuel injected since 01' so haven't kept on top of these changes, a carbs a carb, except now they're plastic........

a used set of carbs on ebay runs about $100. not what you wanted to hear, but I would think that would be your best route at this point unless you find a rebuild kit source.

lol... how old is old??? I've been playing with carbs since the late sixties and from what I remember, plastic/rubber was used back then.

for someone who has been tinkering since the 60's i am surprised you didn't understand the original question? i would imagine that you also know that a rebuild kit usually only cost 20-40 a carb, so 100 for a usable pair isn't too bad, i had no clue that you could find them that cheap though. i would also imagine you would understand what i mean when i say solder and a grinder, the floats and the tip of the float valve are now plastic. maybe that's a kawasaki thing, i've been rolling around on hurricanes since they've been around and that's where i come from. i've played with kawi's before and i feel like i remember them being all brass though? it has been awhile since i've even pulled carbs apart except for minor jet changes for people moving to the area (4900ft).

edit: searched ebay and average price for a complete set is about 140 for the 08+. 07 and down are running about 50? i'm glad theres someone here who has been there, done that since the 60's cause i wonder what the difference is between the new and old? i have to look at parts diagrams tomorrow, but if anyone knows the answer right of the bat that would be awesome. my search continues (but will prob end with the 140 ebay part out piece)

You might want to start another thread asking if pregen carbs can be used on the newgens. I do recall this being brought up before, but I can't find the thread after I searched for it.

edit- found it...

yep... I do remember the floats being brass and solder, but seem to remember some plastic in the old mikuni carbs that I worked with.... then again maybe not. getting older surely doesn't help.

In all my years of playing with carbs, I have never once had to purchase a rebuilt kit for a motorcycle carb, but did know they were available for the older bikes. Just was surprised that you needed one for a 2-3 y/o bike.

The pre-gen and post-gen carbs are the same. A rebuild kit for the pre-gen should work fine.

If what Sam says is true, here's a rebuild kit for less.... look towards the bottom of the page.

^^^I should probably clarify my "carbs are the same" statement. My research shows the only difference is the main jet size. The pre-gen jets are larger; however, I don't remember the exact sizes of each generation.

The main difference with this kit than most out there is that it doesn't have the pilot needles and spring which most of the time you won't need to replace unless your carbs were really neglected and the parts were corroded.
