Most definitely. I've always been a person that does things the right way. That means lots and lots of research! I've actually been lurking the forums since last fall and been learning about bikes ever since. From what I've learned...

1. MSF
2. Good gear
3. Start small (two fiddy all the way)

Welcome Brian - sounds like you have things in the right priority. Looks like "management" has the members map closed for some reason.

Welcome!!! You'll love the ninja 250. I have the 2009 Ninjette in SE green. I thought it would be just a starter but now I don't think I could ever get rid of it. I named mine "Monster" because of the Monster Energy graphics I put on mine. You'll love the bike for sure!!!
