LED BULB fitment
i have some LED bulbs that id like to install..however...does anyone know how i can get them to sit in the housing securely? the fan on the back of the led bulb is way to large for the bulb clamp to hold it in like it would a normal bulb that doesnt have a cooling fan attached. i dont see a way to insert the bulb and just twist to lock it in place either. so has anyone upgraded to led's? is the only way to secure the bulb in place is with the little wire clamp?

Hi Donell and welcome to Ninjette!
Please post photo of your LED bulbs and link to where you purchased them. In many cases, design of these bulbs are so poor that there's always issues with fitting them and getting better bulbs ends up being only solution. The low-end ones have generic mounting-base with an adapter ring to fit into original bulb-holders. This causes loose-fit and variable beam-patterns depending upon which way you wiggle bulb. Yes, spring-clip is required to hold bulb in place. Also only bad low-end bulbs have fans. Better designed ones using higher-quality materials such as copper & aluminium heatsinks are smaller and don't require fans. Aside from outright illegality of LED bulbs, they pose a serious risk to oncoming traffic with glare (above horizonal light spray). Which presents risk to you as well since blinded drivers tend to go in straight line in curve. So if you're on left-hand turn, blinded driver on other wide will miss their right turn and go straight into you. Some background info on LED bulbs: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb...-Manufacturers https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/...ectors.454371/ https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=348470 Note LED bulbs puts out LESS light than high-quality halogen bulbs. Best LED bulb on market, Philips XTreme Ultinon bulb generates 1760 lumens. Compare that to Phillips Long Life HIR2 9012LL bulb which is 2100 lumens. The preferred way to go with LED is an projector-retrofit (still in grey area legally). At least that way, you're not blinding oncoming traffic with glare. Note that even with TWO LED bulbs in TWO projector-housings, output is still less than single HID light. https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=335983 Here's beam-pattern you want. so whats considered a cheap led bulb? ive been using the same ones from amazon for years in my car. id say 9/10 of them have cooling fans,
ive attached a picture of the bulbs and a link where i purchased them from amazon. i chose those because they are always plug and play. and i dont need harness ect which is required for HIDs. so the leds give kindve the same look https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 **even the leds from the suggested website in one of your link has fans: https://www.superbrightleds.com/vehi...1943&year=2009 |

Only the Philips Xtreme Ultinon 11972ULX2 specifically designed for reflector housings has close enough light-pattern to halogen to make it worthy of using IMHO. Earlier 1st-gen Ultinon had external regulator to allow for small removeable heatsink to make installation easier. Also much better CRI. Last futzed with by DannoXYZ; July 26th, 2020 at 02:33 PM. |

You're welcome! My experience with Ultinons was many years ago when they 1st came out. I think many others on market are comparable at lower price now. Greg737 has used the H4 version from SuperbrightLEDs for several years now and he has favourable reviews.
Might want to give these a try: https://www.superbrightleds.com/vehi...1943&year=2009 https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...58#post1269258 |

I agree with @DannoXYZ, If you want to go with LEDs best way is to use a Projector retrofit. Actually I think I will go back to HID since, as you can see in my retrofit, one HID has better performance than 2 LEDs. https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=335983 If you don't want to go that way, there are some Philips high performance halogen bulbs that will work great on OEM reflectors.
