07 Carb options?
Hey all, I went down a month ago and the crash seems to have messed up my carb. The left side seems to be fine but the right (the side that went down) is dumping fuel into the cylinder.
The options I saw were a Motoku for $200 but a review said the needles didnt work for an 07, and a used oem for $220. I wanted to buy a new one to save myself the trouble but how hard is it to adjust the #2 carb back to normal? Should I try and save $150 on a rebuild kit or just buy a new one? |

I would highly recommend making an arrangement with our Ducatiman to restore the carb to new condition. I'd also recommend sending both of them to him so he can make sure they're both like new. I don't want to speak for him, but I think you'll be happy with the price.
Whatever you do, don't buy a rebuild kit. They're known for aftermarket substitute parts. If you want to give it a go youself, take the bowl off the errant carb and see if the float and/or the float needle is sticking open. |

"if rebuild kits are so bad how does he do it?"
carb kits? Nah.....I reuse after careful refurbing of each individual tuning component. I employ modern equipment in my arsenal. Example....see pics...from this to that. Therefore, kits (too many variables) not necessary, just appropriate orings and float valves which have been confirmed by testing and repeat/prior use from confirmed vendors.

Totally agree, rebuild kits are a marketing ploy for people who haven't done much carb work (or have, but don't really understand what they're doing). Brass parts need to be cleaned, sometimes a rubber o-ring needs replacement. Any "kit" full of parts is just that, and throwing parts at these bikes has never worked

prime example documented right here. Pilot screw differences, and far east kits often contain unmarked (afa size) jets as well.

Waste your time and money or let Gordon fix your carbs
Enough said.
He refurbished mine and many others on this forum. Quality work, reasonable prices. Take them off once, send to Gordon, reinstall. Simple. |
