Crashed my bike and need help with part questions
So I finally crashed. 5 months of riding and I crashed. kinda sucks really. Haven't had an issue at any point riding, with other cars, animals, road conditions, riding in the rain / snow. It's been a lot of fun. And then... I hit an oil patch in the road and get thrown off and into a thick bunch of trees. Broke my collar bone when I hit one of them. Came to hanging upside down in the tree. Trashed my bike. And I had just finished the body light kit and the wheel lights 2 days earlier. It really sucks.
The insurance totaled it out. The right side plastics are damaged, bent the right handlebar, destroyed the right rear seat, scratched and dented the muffler, and a few other cosmetics. But I'm thinking about keeping the bike and fixing it back. And that's where you all come in. I'm wondering everyone’s opinion about doing this. I'm going to look at the bike tomorrow. From what the claims adjuster told me the bike doesn't have any frame or forks damage. It's just what I put above that totaled it. If I do keep it, I have to decide OEM or aftermarket for the parts. Plastics - that’s a no brainier already found some at a junk yard from a bike that’s trashed on the left side. Handlebar - its only the right bar that’s bent and only a small amount. I didn’t even see it when i did my once over a few days after the crash. Would it be better to go after market for both bars or just find an OEM bar? Rear set – I was thinking about replacing them anyway. I didn’t like my stance on the bike. Always felt like my feet needed to be a bit back from where they were. For this one would it be better to go to adjustable rear sets or get a replacement one and get a set of rear set adjusters? Muffler – Wanted to do this as well but never wanted to re-jet the bike. But if I’m going to spend cash on a muffler its going to be after market. Any suggestions for a muffler that’s not too showy and is flat black? And with all the work I'm going to be doing to the bike. Any other suggestions for things to do with the rest? Thanks |

As long as people are (in your case relatively) uninjured crashing always means one thing - time to mod. Party on my friend.

Because they are not straight, and if they are not straight then they are bent
