Fender...Eliminated! DIY Style

I finally eliminated thee fender..the cheaper way lol. I found some sheet metal, drew some lines, cut em, drilled some holes, bent the sides, and bam! No more fender!

before:

during construction:

made sure there was a gap so the plate can get some light..

after:
indicators are adjustable so that's why they're messed up in some pics lol

I'll be keeping the stock indicators on for now, but will figure something out later..

Let the custom mods begin!

Get the plate back further so it doesn't tap the wheel.

I didn't put it all the way back because I wanted the light to shine on it, but I'm probably going to have to compromise..

You can put it really far back. The top of my plate is even with the front-most edge of my brake lens. The light coming from the bottom of tail light still lights the plate nicely. Never had any clearance issues.

I had already ruined my perfect plate, so I straightened it and then bent it from under the sticker part. I also had to cut and bend the other side because the tire was touching that too..

Oh, and here's where I mounted the light..

Well, if you need to redo it, the option i took was already built into the tail light lens. There's a plastic panel on the bottom side of the lens that you can replace with clear plastic, and it will light a plate nicely.

you could just cuz and sand the original fender. I did on mine, and it looks great. Just got an "L" shaped piece of metal for the license plate mount. used original bolts and put the signals in the pods. also, the clear plastic idea is great, i did that.

Aight, that'll be my next option. Did you cut the original piece out?

Yep, I took the original red plastic panel and replaced it with a clear piece of plastic cut out from a CD case, like in this DIY:

my fender eliminator

sorry it took so long, but this is how I did mine. Just chopped and sanded. then moved the lights to the pods.
sorry for the huge pictures...

this is the "L" piece of metal i used as a license plate bracket \/

and the light from the brake light illuminates the license plate quite well.

I like the look of the inverted tail lights but isn't it illegal?

When I did mine, I cut down the stock fender, moved turn signals to the pods, and used the stock plate bracket, all I had to do was drill a couple of holes. Looks factory.

Not sure I'm following.

We marked a line parallel to the undertail that didn't interfere with the mounts for the signals and cut along the line with an electric grinder and a 4" cut-off wheel.

Is that what you meant?
