Tired of losing your screws?
Since I have a little 'helper' who absolutely loves working on mommy's motorcycle with her, it's a bit difficult to keep the screws where they are placed when taking the bodywork off the bike. After spending hours putting her back together the first time due to his 'help' I went searching for a solution to help keep track of all of the screws. After searching around a bit, I found a similar organizer for the previous generation, but nothing for the new body style. So, I took pics of my bike and made my own version!
I printed out the picture full-page, and then used some packing tape to 'laminate' it to a heavy piece of cardboard. then I punched out the center of the holes, and viola! I now have an easy way to keep the screws organized when working on the bike! I'm attaching it for your convenience if you need to keep your 'helpers' from providing too much 'help' or, just need a way to keep yourselves organized. The circles with a ring around them are to represent the screws with washers, the black ones are either black screws or the plastic buttons, and the one dotted line is for the seat screw. |

Lol... good idea. Thanks for that.
When the kids were younger, I had to constantly be on guard to keep them out of the garage when I would work on the cars or bikes. If I didn't, there would surely be one nut/bolt that I could not find that was kicked under a box or work table. The kids are now grown, but now I have the GF to watch out for. |

Thank you for the diagram.
No Kids but Orange cat here steals bolts and any other type of fastener. and debit cards ..etc. feeds them to the dog. Just awesome... I like to use a egg carton and put the Nuts and Bolts in order as I pull them. You can write on the sections. |

It's sad to say, but I've taken off the fairings so many times, I now pile all of the fasteners all together once I get the fairings off. When it comes time to put things back on, damn if I don't know exactly where every one of them little buggers go. I guess I should start giving each of those pieces a name.
I know... I need a life. |

lol nice idea! instead of cardboard you could actually mount this as a piece of art on a piece of wood and screw the screws in when the time comes!

Could have used this before I removed mine - I have two extra bolts? I have looked over the entire bike, and can't find their home... Will use this in the future.

I use the egg carton method...or one of those plastic cases that have all the little compartments when Im taking out bunches of screws...otherwise I just toss them in a magnetic parts bowl. |

I do the paper plate parts storage. Set 'em under the bike on a paper plate until time to put the plastics back on.
Not sure how that would work out around the youngin's though. Don't have any of my own. Nice fairing bolts detail Kim.

Love the template Kim, thanks for making it. I'm good at keeping track of my screws (provided they don't vibrate off on the highway like a few have) and already had made something similar using a pizza box but this is so very much better organized than mine was.
It's worth noting the tail section is a little inacurrate; there are two more fairing bolts back there and two bolts around the pillion seat key hole. I just added lines and spots on mine to reflect this.

I put rubber grommets cut lengthwise so that they are like a washer on all the allen screws. This allows you to loosen the screw and leave it in place--when the fairing section is off, you simply push the grommet up against the inside of the fairing. The plastic "rivets" are another story. I think that they are Mickey Mouse and plan to replace them with Dzus Fasteners.

longer is correct. I had to go on the parts diagram. The one shop I had work on my bike lost them and replaced with standard length. had a hell of a time getting to actually catch w/ standard length

They thread anywhere the others do so they may have been accidentally placed elsewhere on your bike.

I replaced all of my bolts with bolts from Ace Hardware last year. Now this year, they are starting to rust. I want to replace them, but I don't have the specific sizes. Does anyone know where I could find the specific sizes for all the fairing bolts? I might as well replace them all while I'm at it.
