While, doing my due diligence in modifying my 250s engine, I found this baby on an Indonesian shop's webstore.

It's a race radiator for the 250, curved and double rowed.

What difference would that make? Get the engine cooler faster?

I like the protective mesh screen on the front of it.

This radiator has more surface area for reducing surplus heat allowing the engine to run cooler. The larger radiator is only worthwhile if you have a modified engine, maybe even race.

When the engine produces excessive heat, it loses power.

An interesting bit of news when I mounted the radiator.

1. It isn't centered on the bike.

2. The right lower cowling needed to be forced into position to be attached to the left lower cowling. I'd expect to have to build an additional bracket to reinforce the fairing attachments. It could complicate issues at high speeds.

3. The Radiator cowling couldn't be remounted, as the larger radiator used the center mounting bolts of the cowling. This cowl isn't just aesthetics, I think it helps reinforce the attachment of the right and left cowling.

Overall it's nothing, that couldn't be overcome with a little ingenuity.

I also mounted a Daytona multimeter to keep track of my oil and coolant temperatures. Unfortunately the parts for the multimeter came after the engine build was completed and I wasn't able to install it in time to get a "before and after" reading on the engine mods, with and without the new radiator.

Do you have a link to the shop where you purchased this? I need a new radiator for my race bike so I may as well upgrade. I'd be curious to see more mounted pictures though as I concerned about the fitment issues you mentioned.

After over a week of use, the hottest it's ever gotten while street riding is 110 degrees Celsius. (230 F.)

Oil was 112C.

Just did 100 kms. cruising between 100-120 kph (60-75mph), coolant was steady at 81 deg Celsius (177.8oF), oil was at 90oC(194oF).

don't tempt me... I am studying a case of fitting the 250/300 engine onto an old Honda Bros 400 aluminum frame sitting in my garage... worst thing is it almost fits !! might need some mods at the front mounts but then what do I do with all the forks, swingarms and the rest if I make it, huh ??

Here are picture of the radiator mounted.


You'll see the fairings mounted properly and the right side of the radiator. That is the part that touches the fairing. I placed a bicycle inner tube and duct tape to cushion the radiator from rubbing against the stock fairing.

I'd expect race fairings to fare better clearance wise.

I really think I am going to pick one of these up. the only thing holding me back is ordering through that website-could you give a quick run down of your experience ordering from them and shipping? Language barrier etc? You mentioned the cost of shipping was large-how much did oyu pay if you dont mind me asking

The language barrier was doable, they have a section that tells you what you have to put down on the email to make a purchase. This is the information they require.

Make list of what you want and send in a request for availability. My first order was cherry, but the 2nd one didn't have a lot of parts available.

I ordered wheels and sprockets on the first one, the 2nd one had more sprockets, a drive chain, rear hugger and brake rotors. Only one item out of the 6 items was available. So I scratched the order and bought local.

Regarding shipping, I had to pay $200 usd for the shipping (Indonesia to the Philippines). Strange enough, they use EMS for sending the parts, but it arrived by UPS right to my doorstep. It was shipped on a Thursday and arrived on Monday. Apparently their Postal EMS service has an agreement to use UPS when shipments get too chunky for their services.

The wheels are very affordable, but the shipping can tear you a new one.

WARNING : the boxes the rims came in a corrugated cardboard and do not protect the rims. Go the extra mile to pay for a crate to protect the rim, if that is what you're planning on ordering. Out of the 3 rear wheels I ordered, 1 had a small dent on the lip from shipping. I had to get it pressed back into place.

UPDATE:

The radiator even with heavy engine mods keeps the engine cool at around 95-105 Celsius (203-221 Fahrenheit) on the track. It's get hotter with road traffic.

On a negative note, the mounting tabs started to break off, when I stupidly did was not to installing rubber mounts to dampen engine vibration. One tab broke off and another was on the way to doing so too.

Upon inspection, the tabs were shoddily welded on, some of them were only half done. SO I had everything redone by low amperage TIG welding, which only cost me $11.00.

Here are some shots of what happened.

The red arrows indicate the incomplete welds.

Good thing I did a maintenance inspection before any real serious damage occurred, which probably saved the radiator and maybe the engine too.

Sorry, the multi meter I have been discontinued. Daytona might have newer models if you decide to take a look at the online catalog.

But KOSO has some excellent gauges available.
