What can these bikes actually outrun?
Well....honestly...if the road is straight, not much.
And all roads eventually straighten out but.... What bikes or cars have you smoked in the mile or 2 of twisties that we all spend our time looking for? Me...I like to blast past cruisers on the cloverleaf. |

These bikes can beat most cars that you see everyday from 0-60mph easily. But with 60mpg+ and one hell of a fun time they beat every car on the road.

I beat a Ducati Monster, and a GSXR. They both knew we were racing, but I only claim victory in the first 20 feet..... after which I retire

I use the ninjette to commute during the week. Because lanes are narrow, lanesharing is legal and we've got traffic, I can beat just about anything on the road. I split cars at about 10mph faster than traffic flow where bigger bikes have trouble with rear view mirrors, and I leave all the cars wishing for a ninjette to get them out of the traffic.

I was at a red light one time, when a HD sportster pulled up, I said hello.... the guy(helmet less squid) gave me a **** look an revved it.
I wasn't even in gear so of the light he took off, when we got to the first S turn, I smoked him so bad I came to a stop three blocks away before he came out of the second turn. I felt awesome.... but all the guys in the SOFLAsportbike forum laughed at me for picking on Harleys. |

I may not smoke them, but I have kept right on the bumper of friends camaros, mustangs, and grand prix gtp in the 1/4 mile. Trucks, vans, suvs, family cars, and such are easy to smoke from a start. So yah, like 85%+ of the cars on the road here are not hard to pass.

I imagine a completely tuned ninja 250r can do some decent 0-60 times, however top speed is going to be its weakness. That being said it can carry some decent corner speed, and in the skilled hands could probably smoke some corner hoggers.
But the street is not the place to be testing this stuff, take it to a track.

Using data accquisition we've shown that the 250 can actually carry the same or more corner speed on the race track than the 600's or the 1000's. Just any time its straight we get murdered.

Floyd, I look at that picture--Wow! You motorcyclists have a skill level hard to imagine. Now I know why you are so laid back.
Last year I got into it with a Porsche America. He "Horizoned" me in no time. With a car like that there is virtually no competition. The owner tells me that 55 to 65 is total torture. The car starts to feel good at 90+. I have no clue how he was able to keep his driver's license. Mine would have been revoked a week after I had that car.

This isn't a Ninjette story, but it's my one and only "I smoked someone" story, so I'll tell it.
I was leading a small ride of about 5 women once on my XT225. On the way home, we were coming over a rise when a group of 4 Gixxers saw us and peeled off of the side street they were on to cut us off. We had to all slam on the brakes to avoid getting hit by these . I knew the road we were on very well, so I thought, "I'll have some fun" and I took off after them. Passed them one after another in the twisties. When we got to the stop sign at the end of the section, I pulled up to the leader and said, "maybe you'll think twice next time about f**cking with women -- you guys just got beat by a lady on a 225cc thumper!" He said, "yes ma'am" and sheepishly turned the other way.

Eddiekay, I think people don't ride or are unaware of there bikes, the way they were made and LOVE to be driven. RPM's don't fall off until a good 13,500rpm, and torque at least at 10,000rpm. Try sitting at a stop on a safe road and rev. the bike up the way it is meant to be revved up before take off. Then take off and go through the gears to at least 12k rpm and settle in at 11k rpm in top gear. Look at how fast your going and KNOW this bike wants to saty there, and can, all day long. I'm talking about my 05, which NEEDS to go at least 80mph to ride properly and enjoy itself and always please her. Apologies to city dwellers and commuters I'm neither, I paid my due and now ride/run bikes. Messing with 883 all that sportster guys is fun and next up is the new honda 250 which turns you into a hula dancer over 70mph.

I have a friend that rides a 250 hyosung. The 250 Ninja is pretty much slower than anything else. You people that catch bigger/faster bikes are catching some pretty piss poor riders.

Those that take the big bikes in the twisties..... well, that actually is the nature of the Ninjette. I would also call that a mechanical advantage. So where there is a mechanical advantage, I would say that assumes equal riders, but of course it isn't really like that out there. I probably wouldn't take a bigger bike in the twisties, but that is only because I don't drive aggressively enough... to scared (or smart).

I'd wager that the gixxer rider took it easy out of the gates so that he didn't accidentally wheelie himself into oblivion. My gixxer is an old, slow POS compared to anything made after 1996 and I can confirm that it makes a crap load more power than the 250 EVERYWHERE. |
