With

then

Works well for me and with that kind of sponge its easer it get into all the cracks and crevices. And if you're not trying to polish any scratches out that wax protects fine and gives a nice shine.

I just use some environment safe soap, a sponge, rag, and a hose.

However, I love the way @SON1C cleans his bikes with a foam canon! https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=173996

Cuts the grease and grime better than any car wash stuff i've tried. And bug goo is no match for Dawn. I use it on the car too.

Dish soap might work well but it will strip the wax from your bike. I use car wash soap. For the bugs, I soak soft rags in hot water and place them over the bugs to soften them. They wipe right off with no scrubbing after being softened. I use a soft rag and Plexus on the windscreen. I do the same with my helmet. I have 3 different sponges that I use on the bike; one for the tank, fairings, etc, one for the wheels, and one for the grimey areas near the chain. I also install an exhaust plug so I don't spray water into the muffler. When I am finished washing, I start the bike and let it warm up to temperature and use a chamois (shammy) to dry. Of course I have one for the shiney bits and one for the wheels, etc. Lastly, I lube anything that moves and apply a fresh coat of wax every 4-5 washes.

Dawn will dry out any rubber parts on your bike.
