scrawny guy back protector

i am looking for a back protector, im a scrawny guy. The first protector i bought was a bit big and when i went down low and looked through the corner it would ride up and push my helmet upwards, making the visor and the front of the helmet go downwards which made me lose a lot of visibility so i sold it.

any suggestions?

Maybe one made for kids or women.

Knox makes such protectors.

How tall are you?

I'm 5'7" if I eat my Wheaties and have much the same problem.

What has worked for me is to leave the waistband a bit looser than you think it should be, so it is less likely to ride up. The big elastic band will go more around your hips than your waist. Your suit will help to keep things where they should be.

Also don't tighten the shoulder straps too much... that pulls the armor up too high.. Same applies to backpacks. What feels right when you're standing up is all wrong when you're in a tuck. For example, the top of my riding pack is right between my shoulder blades (i.e. about armpit height) when standing upright. On the bike it's perfect.

If you need something smaller than the average men's small size, forcefield makes a kids/small adult size.

I'm 5'3" and I've found the biggest trick is to get one that has flex and getting it low enough. It has to go on first, not just before the jacket. Don't know if that's helpful.

I hate to be a broken record.... but look into one of these. They don't ride up and flex in the spine area. They can also pull double duty as dirt gear. @choneofakind is a lanky gent, he rode wearing mine (med sized). He may be of value to help here as he also has a leather suit with a built in back pad (crash tested!!!).

Either way, get something!!!! It's better than the alternative, a few of us ninjetter's have now seen that type of gear be worth it's weight in gold.

What style did you go with first that didn't work? There are tons of back protectors out there. I would check www.sportbiketrackgear.com they have everything.

@csmith12 indeed i agree, my crash at shenny earlier this year i thought i had only dislocated my shoulder, went to the doctor last week for something unrelated and he asked me to stand up and instantly was like, yea you have scoliosis, very mild but i guess from that crash it knocked up my spine slightly.
@cbinker i had one of these
