crash to injury ratio

sure lots of people talk about how often they crash but i think something that a lot of people neetly skate past is how often we as riders escape almost unharmed (when properly protected obviously) so i want to see what youse guyses numbers are.

its a ratio of number of crashes divided by number of times injured in crashes. and i mean a serious injury like a broken bone or something you have to go to the hospital for.

for example i've crashed 6 times and only this most recent crash did i really suffer any injuries. even then it was a mild concussion. so my ratio would be 6:1. say you have 4 crashes but only 2 had injuries, ratio is 2:1

Not sure how I should vote for this...
I've been in 4, the most recent 2 (both on the fz6r) where I was actually injured.
Of those 2 only 1 time did I go to hospital, 2 days later and that was just for x-ray verification if I had a broken collar bone (which showed negative). The last one, when hit from behind..I should've probably went for X-rays, but I felt I knew nothing was broke in my ankle and never seeked medical treatment.

I feel like I should vote 2:1 but seeing as neither where serious injuries or broken bones, that may be more of a 4:1 or 4:0 ratio.

Your thoughts?

Going with my count of 8 moving crashes, I've only been to the hospital once. Nothing major broken, just a cut knee and a minor fracture in my wrist. I did get to ride in the ambulance on a later crash but the EMT just let me out with some aspirin.

The hospital trip is why I always push for gear. Shorty gloves and jeans did nothing to protect the fragile bits when they hit the ground at 45.

Damn it's a little too early in the morning to think about ratios. But I'm 1:1. One lowside at ~35 mph, in full leathers, not a scratch on me.

@rasta wouldn't that be 1:0? 1 wreck, 0 injuries?

I would say one of my six crashes resulted in "injury" I scraped my knee under my leathers that ended up getting infected. other then that my feelings and pocket book got hurt.

I think your logic was right. In this thread, it seems you have to pay to play. On this forum though, due to the mix of riders we have the first option of the poll should be X:0.

Added two options to hopefully clear up some of the confusion.

I'm somewhere close to 1:1, as I tend to get hurt just about every time I hit the ground. Hence my incentive to keep from hitting the ground if I can help it. I can only think of one of them where I actually wasn't hurt to some extent, but that was a 20 mph simple lowside.

Hey, as the commercial says, "It's only crazy if it doesn't work!" and I do firmly believe in Murphy and his endless pursuit of ruining plans.

Twice including being hit by a car, no serious injuries though my right knee does bother me from time to time (not seriously, just a need to stretch it and it's good) since I had to pull tail light plastics out of it. (if that counts as injury then I'm 2:1 ratio, if not then 2:0)

edit: This is the perfect thread for @Jiggles

This one should precede a thread named: How well do you fall? .... or ......... Do you know how to properly fall from your bike?

I remember four official crashes and falls, my scars remind me that my left ankle and elbow were hurt in one of those (the one before the last one).

Hence, my vote was 4:1, ............ and yes, I have followed Alex's advice: maybe stop crashing so much

This was a tough one to answer. I've had 5 crashes total, 2 in the mountains, 3 at the track. I was injured enough to have to sit in the ambulance after one of my track crashes...nothing broken, but I still have scars on my arm and an occasional sore thumb from that one. I voted 5:1, though I really haven't had any "serious" injury.

3 crashes on track, 3 off it- and the only one that ever gave me more than bruises was the slowest of them all. Because **** prius drivers.

Still wasn't bad enough to stop me from racing the week after, but I also still have a notable burn scar a year and a half later, so.... I'll call it 6:1

you know, now that i think about it, it has happened twice. same bike too, the FZR 600. both times i was on the left side and it started falling to the right and i tried to keep it from falling but.... well, that bike does what it damn well feels like. so hanging on means getting thrown over the top of it.

Another one is walking by the bike in shorts and flip flops at a track day and your foot slips catching your shin on the foot peg, done that too.

If you count dirt crashes the poll doesn't go high enough.

Ehh - But never been seriously hurt.

1:0.
I've had one crash; on a private road. Only thing I got from it was a bruised/sore palm (where palm sliders would have been, hence I bought the A* GP Tech gloves) and some scrapes under my pants.

I have had only 3 street crashes (millions of dirt) and I got luck each time. All of my serious, broken bone crashes came from my dirt bike days. My first crash was the worst as I high sided on the grass (sideways) back onto the pavement and it shot me up up and away. I came down on the back of my head and if I did not have a helmet on I would not be boring you today. Walked away with just a few minor rashes and no hospital. My first bike was a Yamaha FZ750 which was track prepped, really good ad for learning on a smaller displacement bike! Second was a trip off road with a NINJA 600 no injuries but totally my fault (sorta). The third was all my fault also as I rushed a corner quite fast (not too fast for a clear road) and found they had laid sand in the corner for ice/traction what ever! I skid across the oncoming lane and hit the guard rail. I believe my dirt riding experience helped me keep the accident from being worse but not enough to keep it from happening! I was able to ride the (slightly broken) bike home so I guess it was ok. So with all that said I guess my ratio would have to be 3:0 and I hope that number never changes but I am doing my first track day this year so stay tuned for an update around July Wear your gear all the time. 2 of my 3 accidents happened during simple rides around town where you would think you would be safe!!!

I got hurt in all my pavement crashes. Can anyone teach me how to lowside? I have a degree in highsiding if anyone needs a class.
On dirt, I never got really hurt, but I cant figure out how to go off the sides of a dirt bike. Front or back dismount on dirt.
