I hear a lot of people take a torch to them and cook the lock tight to loosen it up. I didn't plan on putting any bar ends back on so I just drilled off the end of the bolt, slid the barend over and use vise grips on the bare threads to remove the remainder of the bolt.

The screws are held in with red locktite. Use a propane torch and play the flame on the screw head for a minute, move it around, it should not be getting hot enough to damage the paint or make anything smoke. Once the screw threads get hot enough the locktite softens and the screw comes out.

I got mine off without using a torch. However, its very critical to get a Phillips bit that fits perfectly. I used this. It worked perfectly without marring or burning. The bit that comes with the kit is a perfect fit.

Ah yes.... impact driver, one of my favorite tools. Your normally pissed off when you need it and 9 times out of 10, it does the job and the world is right again. lol

If you use it before you get pissed off, then the bit fits better.

use a torch, if you are trying to take them off to put on new grips just cut the old ones off, and use some hairspray on inside of new ones and slide them over. hairspray will keep them stuck once it dries.
