shopping for a full gauntlet glove..
Trying not to spend over 150, I'm leaning toward the dainese carbon cover or pro carbon, but haven't ruled out the knox recon or held thrux gloves, anyone have any experience with these gloves or recommend a different pair?

I'm a big fan of my Lee Parks deerskin gloves. Deerskin is wonderful stuff… very soft and once broken in it's like an extension of your own skin. Lee (also author of Total Control) has a different design philosophy from most manufacturers. He contends that the weak part of any glove is the seams… so gloves that have enormous amounts of stitching and are made of many little pieces are more likely to come apart. His gloves are made of only four pieces of hide.
The big difference from most gloves is the lack of hard bits like plastic/carbon knuckle protectors. The idea here is that what's important is abrasion resistance and that comes from solid leather, not a plastic bit that might shatter or shed off once your hand starts sliding along the pavement. http://www.leeparksdesign.com/eshopp...k_and_Tan_.htm |

Those held gloves are very comfy and hold up well. However I just don't see much better bang for the buck than these STILL on sale.

My viewpoint on this has changed. I now believe that THE most visible thing is your head. I decided this after passing the same guy (going the opposite way) almost daily for weeks last summer. He had all-black gear and a yellow helmet. Could spot him from very far away.
In contrast, I've passed guys with lighter-colored jackets and black helmets and they don't stand out as much. I kind of doubt a couple of square inches of white leather on your hands are going to make a real difference. Consider this: What's most important is being seen from the front. If you wear a yellow jacket, say, you've got your torso bright… BUT you're leaning forward, with your chest shaded and partly obscured by the windscreen and bars. Your head, though, is right up there, big as a pumpkin and higher than anything else. Oh, BTW… because of that observation last year, when it came time to replace my lid this year I bought a neon yellow EXO-700. |

These are pretty protective imo, especially for just under $100. They are my first pair of gloves though so take my advice how you will. |

Ya that's probably true. Post what you end up getting! I kinda want another pair just cause I'm a gear whore and if I can justify it by buying a more protective glove that would be nice.

These are the gloves I'm going to buy once I have some extra cash. A little higher than your 150 max point, but they are very well reviewed.

ive abused the hell out of these goves and even crashed on the track with them. they have taken every bit of abuse i have thrown at them. i still wear the same pair. though im thinking about getting a different color. for the price, they are gold. i would say much better than the a* gp pro but i do know one person who disagrees with me

You crashed on the slowest corner on the track, I crashed in the fastest. My gp pros are fine, your kobe's had the ring on the wrist strap messed up. I'm sure your kobes are more than adequate and will protect just fine, and while every crash is different, the gp pros factually have more features- not the least of which is actual kangaroo leather, more R&D, and in the one instance of in person performance data that you have, held up better in a crash. I don't doubt you like your gloves better, but that doesn't make them technically superior. There's a difference between disagreeing and knowing something is blatantly wrong. Now stop lying to people in an effort to make an awkward attempt at some sort of joke. |
