So you can cut your own sized preload spacer.

Too small to use for seals. Based on the instructions I'm guessing it's in case I want to cut spacers out of it for pre-load adjustment? They did give me washers tho.

Edit: Beat by Chris lol. Thanks.

I went through this same process just a few months ago with nearly the same parts you got. You should love the feel compared to stock.

Do you have a pipe cutter? really makes square cuts around the pvc a lot easier.

Late MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!!
Looking forward to you writing up the transformation to your suspension. I have the same GSXR shock and I am considering doing the GOLD valve kit to the little Ninja! Please let me/everyone know how the forks feel and especially the shock. I will have the shock on Our (mine and the Wife) ninja by March 15th but I still need to convince her to let me do the forks.

Will do, plan to craft a write up for the shock install. I'm still waiting on the dog bones though

Wow, lots of similarities to my parts pics from October '12. Right down to the wood floor and poorly packed emulator...

If you want to venture over to that other Ninja site, http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php...ension_Preload has lots of good background info and math on setting the preload/sag.

Haha awesome man.

Ya I'm good on dealing with pre load and sag. And I can set the compression/rebound as well. Was just wondering if someone of similar weight had a good setting so I had a better place to start with those.

The best starting point I have found is to set the front and rear so they both compress equally when you (having a friend hold the bike vertical but holding no weight) push down (not fast) firmly on the tank just where the tank slopes toward the seat. The bike should move down about 3-4 inches equally front and rear then when you release the weight it should rise at an equal rate front and rear. Make sure you set the sag front and back first and this will make the settings a little soft but balanced then you can make adjustments from there. Good luck and let us know how you make out

Remember when you push down if its too hard then lower compression goes down too easy raise compression and if rises too fast then lower rebound and increase rebound if it raises too slow.
Once you take it for a test ride if the rear feels harsh before you lower the compression try a few less clicks of rear rebound. Keep a record of your starting point by turning the "clickers" all the way in then all the way out and count the clicks then set to the middle (and write how many clicks out the middle is) and begin the above set up and record total clicks out from full in. This way when you make a change you will always have your beginning recorded and can always go back if you don't like the changes.

NOTE the GSXR shock also has a high speed compression setting which you can work on after the base settings are working well for you and you have a balanced setting you are comfortable with. Do small (1-2 clicks) at a time and ride it. Remember that when you change one thing it will effect the other end so recheck sag and front to rear balance often while making adjustments. When you push down you should feel more than just the spring resisting and it should move smoothly and equally both ends. When you release it should rise equally but not really fast till it hits it unloaded sag then stop it should not go past then settle back and both front and rear should raise at the same rate.

Feel free to post any questions

Thanks Ant. That's pretty much how I was planning on going at it. We'll see how much trial and error it takes to get right.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask question and I found several good vids on Youtube to help guide you thru!

Keep us posted. I will be doing some suspension work on our ninja so the wife can enjoy it more and I need to get my SV dialed in for when I hit the track

Damn nice... Along with the above I also bought a good valve for my rear shock, along with a new spring and a rebound separator valve. Might be a good idea.

I paid about 150 for the good valve on eBay and the spring I got for free because a spring manufacturer made it for me... But it's about 140 on race tech I think.

I think in your case it would be cheaper to go in for a gsxr1000 spring(not sure about the year, but I think it 01-02, considering I'm in india and even a free spring will cost a fortune to send you

so it looks like the +1.25s were like 156mm or so. Kinda hard to see from pics for sure.
