Kawasaki 08 09 10 Ninja 250 250R Emission Block Off Plate
http://www.slingshotracing.net/catal...ate-p-204.html
- Brand New Kawasaki Ninja 250R Emission Block Off - Made from 100% 6061 T-6 Aluminum and finished with Gold Anodize - Removes the smog system which eliminates error when making air/fuel ratio measurements - Essential when DYNO tuning your motorcycle - Improves exhaust scavenging - Comes with (1) Emission Block-Off (only one is needed for this motorcycle) - Easy installation (reuses your stock screws) What does this do? Worth buying? It's 15 bucks Thanks, It looks like it removes the Kleen Air system in this photo. Guessing it looks better then a big bolt plugging up with some clamps where the valve was. |

I removed my Kleen-air system and just plug the top similar to the picture. I don't think you see it either way once the fairings are back on.

if it's worth $15 to you, go for it. It is a cleaner looking install.
When I did the Kleen system removal back then, no one was making block off plates for the 250R and that setup I came up with in the garage that afternoon works just fine for me to this day. |

I ordered one today because I needed a small box to ship an ebay item.
And.... it is only $15 for the luxury of a little less clutter. And.... I like getting things in the mail (not bills). It is always fun to unbox things

I bought one to replace my rubber cap. Thing is you need to lift the gas tank to get to the plate. One day...one day it'll be done

I ACCIDENTLY took my tank of yesterday when I didn't need to. I pulled my fairings off to adjust the mixture, but was on autopilot, so I spaced and removed the tank, and had half the carb cover screws off when I realized what I was doing.

I saw these blockoff plates advertised, but wound up making a couple of them out of some old 1/8" steel plate I had laying around. Coated with some hi-temp spray paint and working like a champ 5,000mi later. For reference, you do NOT need to pull the tank off to install (just the left lower cowl), but it makes things a lot easier.
Worth $15 to just pull off another piece and clean things up, up to you. But it does reduce the number of possible failure points by 1 or 2 from the 'plugged with a bolt and hose' setup.

Just bolt it down. I like that SSR took an idea I bounced off them and made it a reality. They are a great company to wok with.

When I got the thing apart, it became super clear to me.... no sealants needed. I had forgotten that the part directly under the cover I was replaceing with the block-off plate serves as a gasket.
All I needed to do was slap that bad boy on. IIRC, the bolts are at 115 in-lbs (but don't quote me on that). Pretty

slingshotracing.net website certificate invalid
So I'd like to order this part but I keep getting a message from Firefox that their website certificate is invalid. I got the same yesterday and today so it makes me wonder if I can trust their site. Did you guys experience anything similar when you went to their website and tried to buy something?

Did you try going to "Account" as if though you are going to login. Or click something to add to cart then go to purchase (but don't of course unless you really want it It's when it tries to use https I think that Firefox checks the certificate.
BTW, I just removed the kleen air and CA emissions about 30 minutes ago. And then I went crazy and am trying to remove the airbox a la VeX now (I wasn't planning too but figured, what the hell, I already have the fairings and tank off). I haven't even orderd the K&N r-0990 filter yet |

now that I tried to purchase it, this pops up...
www.slingshotracing.net uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) if you're serious about getting it, I suggest giving them a call to order and let them know what's happening. gl w/ removing the airbox... it's a beeotch!!! |

Anyone can create an SSL cert which you use for encrypted http connections. To prove the website is actual who they say they are, the SSL cert must be signed by a trusted Certificate Authority The trusted CA are built into brower and the CA for slingshotracing is securebusinessservices. It looks like firefox does not have the updated CA for securebusinessservices. If you are paranoid, use Internet Explorer (I never thought I'd say that) because they recognize the ssl cert as valid.
Edit: Now that I think about it, the CA may have been revoked for one reason or another. It is possible my explorer (WinXP) has an older version of the CA than my Firefox. |

Would a revoked cert. indicate something negative about the company, or just a technical thing?

It's unlikely related to anything negative about the company, and more likely that their ISP needs to work with Mozilla to make sure Firefox has the appropriate root certificate included. IE, Chrome, and Safari all have no issue with the cert, FF is the only one that reports a problem.

FYI- we had to add washers under the stock screws when we installed this, because the stock screws bottomed out and didn't hold it down tight. The factory plate was thicker.

Hmmmm..... I didn't have to do this, but am now wondering if all this time the answer to that stupid surge that I can't completely eliminate lies here. I used a torque wrench and didn't notice any obvious problems at install.... I'll take a closer look in another 2k when I do valves.

Would a gasket under the plate have helped? Seems odd that these would be installed w/o a gasket

What exactly does this do? I read the description in the first post but I don't know what any of that means.
Would installing it make it harder to pass emission testing? |

k&n filter r-0990
So I removed the airbox out later that night (Thursday night). It was a PIA but I was expecting it to be from what I read and wasn't fazed by it. There are 9 screws incidentally holding the airbox together.
I ordered the K&N filter (r-0990) from amazon for less than $30 yesterday (plus I get free shipping as a "Prime" member) and it arrived today via Ontrac (ahh... the joys of living in California... did I mention it's like 70something degrees outside? ). I noticed the flanges are short and the box the filter came in didn't come with separate rubber boots (are these what you would call them?). Am I supposed to pull the rubber boots from the oem airbox and re-use them? Or is there a website I can buy these from (the ones glued to the oem airbox are rather long). The guy I bought the bike from gave me a dynojet stage 2 kit he never got around to installing but I assume now that the jets in the box are too small for this magnitude of a change to airflow (compared to what was coming through that snorkel thing). The bike has a two brothers vale m2 exhaust system (slip on). According to the the dynojet chart they recommend 98 (dynojet size -- not sure what the equivalent Keihin size is). The box included a pair of 100s too (again, not sure what the Keihin equivalent is). I looked at the jetting database but it's all over the place with conflicting sizes (even with the same brand of jet and setup). I was thinking of ordering (authenitic) Keihin jets in pairs of 110, 112 and 115 -- am I likely to find the optimal jet in this range for my set up? I saw someone recommended jetsrus.com so I'll check them out. Last futzed with by afbarr; February 5th, 2011 at 02:23 PM. Reason: typo |
