Buying a "used" 2012 Ninja

I contacted someone from craigslist today selling a 2012 Ninja 250 with 45 miles on the odometer. She's claiming she bought it and decided to sell it because she thinks its too dangerous to be riding a motorcycle with three young kids.

Anyway, she's got it posted for $4,400, the sticker price at the dealer. She says that she's got all the paperwork. What do you guys think is a reasonable offer?

What exactly is the factory warranty, and will it transfer to me?

In california that would be a good deal because of all the dealer fees that are stacked onto the MSRP these bikes can go for $5500 OTD. I don't know if michigan is similar but I'd say that is an accurate price, or not too far off

Factory warranty is just a 1 year warranty, it goes with the bike

A new bike here goes for a little under $5,000 after fees and taxes. I'm thinking about offering her $3,500 and seeing where it gets me.

$3500 is way too low, this is a new bike. Think of her situation, if she paid $5000 for it do you really think she will sell it for $3500? Not even close. If I were you I would try to get it for $4400 including tax you will have to pay to the DMV. What is your tax rate? Subtract that amount from $4400 and offer her that.

if your friends jumped off a bridge for $5500, would you? just because some sell for $5500 doesnt mean you cant get a better deal. find an 08 or 09 for $2500.

People that don't respond drive me crazy. At least say no. Who knows, I might just say "ok" and buy it for the price you have listed

If all is legit, $3.5k-4k seems like a reasonable first offer. If your gunna pay new prices, then buy a NEW one for just a little more and your search is over at the next kawi dealership.

She may be motivated considering she's got $4400+ tied up in something she doesn't want, but I highly doubt she's motivated enough to give it away. I wouldn't pay her MSRP for it, but I'd offer her $4K & let her pray on it. All she can do is counter or say get bent, and if she won't even play ball at that amount, walk away.

I'd offer 4k as well. After tax that will put you around 4.3-4.4k which IMO is a great deal for a new 2012 ninja

You know what's even worse? Offering to pay the asking price for something and them not responding. I said I will pay full price and the ****er doesn't reply back to me!

$4,300 is a decent deal fora new Ninja. I'm definitely not considering it "great" though. I've watched too many 2009 Ninjas with 3,000 miles slip by for $3,000.

If I'm paying MSRP I want it to come from a dealership.

Don't be silly, $4300, including tax, is an amazing price for a new ninja 250.

You said from a dealer they go for $5000 OTD. I'm failing to see how a $700 discount for 43 miles is not a great deal

I got my 2012 OTD from a dealer for $3600 They were asking $3699 (if I remember correctly)+ tax, plate and $150 used bike inspection fee offered the $3600 OTD They originally said no but called me back a few days later.

Mine had 51 miles on it. And yes, the factory warranty transferred.

For what its worth, I paid $3400 for my 2012 Candy Apple Lime with 11 miles on it in NW Ohio. Guy won it in the give away and just wanted the cash. Right place, right time I guess. Remember though, at the dealership it includes tax, tag, and title. I paid almost $300 on top of the price for tax and tags. I'd wait for a better deal unless you need to finance it through the dealership.

Ator, that guy either lost his ass on you, or there is something severely wrong with that bike.

I dont know where you guys are or how good your negotiating skills are but I just got my '12 Ninja for $4500 OTD. I got all the paperwork and shipping fees and building fees waived. I only had to pay tax and registration for DMV. I just told them hey the dealership down the road has 2011 honda cbr250s for $3799, and managed to work out that deal.

I could have gotten the honda for much less probably $4000 OTD but I really like the feel of the Ninja better. Also cant beat candy lime green, except for that black and white they did last year which I really wanted ><

Also I dont know what color the ninja is but around here I saw a couple 2012 Ninjas in candy lime green that were selling as the SE, but the SE colors for this year are the red and black/yellow trim. So the green one is 4100 here at dealer and red and black are 4400.

Got it from a dealer, it was considered "used" Salesman says they got it from an auction (where they buy most of their used bikes) and it was most likely a repo

I just put an offer in for $3,500, and explained that I couldn't see myself paying MSRP for a bike that wasn't coming from a dealership. I guess we'll see where it goes from here. If she rejects it I'll just be watching craigslist for a little while longer. It's no big deal, especially since I'm signed up to take the MSF on April 20th.

Is it a SE model? If not then MSRP is only $4199 new and your offer is fair

Sorry, used is used. Doesn't matter if it's got 3 miles on it or 3,000, if it's not brand spanking new from a Kawasaki dealer, you shouldn't be paying anything close to new prices. MSRP for 2012 is $4,200 (which is an outrage), so I would say $3,500 would be the best the seller could hope to get.

Thanks guys. She responded and said she's got two people interested for her full price... I do believe it's an SE model.

You sure you want to call these people gullible? You've seen first hand exactly how popular these bikes are and how quick they sell. The market dictates the price, supply and demand blah blah all that crap. If you keep waiting around to find that amazing deal you might be waiting until october. It's riding season, the best time to sell a bike, and the worst time to buy one.

She also could be saying that to get you to up your offer. I would give her your best offer and just say, "well I have the cash if you decide to take my offer" and leave it at that

That's absolutely correct, especially here in Michigan where we only have a handful of months to ride, and the weather had been pretty good this March.

The market dictates the price, supply and demand blah blah all that crap. If you keep waiting around to find that amazing deal you might be waiting until october. It's riding season, the best time to sell a bike, and the worst time to buy one.
The deals I've seen pass me by were $3,000 for a 2009 with 2,200 miles and $2,700 for a 2009 with 4,000 miles...

where are you taking the MSF?

What's the difference in the models?
Red and Black w/yellow trim are the special edition colors.

Candy Lime Green is the standard bike.

There is a guy here on craigslist who is selling a Green one he won in a drawing at a dealership as a SE and asking for $4400.

something a few people are seeming to forget. Basic laws of supply and demand. Because New the go for 5k+ OTD price and there are only so many Used ones at 4kish price.. the 4kish price even if its still "more" than its "worth" people will pay it. Because 4kish is still cheaper than 5K+ last time I checked....
