To each his own I guess. If you go narrower tires, get as sticky of a tire as you can.

If you lower it, it'll make the rake angle huge, and lower ground clearance

Mind telling me what they said about him there?, the ****er keeps dodging my e-mails and calls, keeps telling me he will have it done by a certain date and then completely misses it. is been roughly 3 months and he wont give me my **** back. He is definitely not getting any more of my business after this.

Just things along the lines of what you have already said. not calling people back ect. My offer still stands if you would like to get your stuff back I will help you get it back together.

ON a side note:
Do you have an extra pair of forks? mine are pitted and causing the seals to leak, I was going to check on ebay but decided to go the local route instead.

I had a meeting with him yesterday, in person. I know now the reasons as to why he does what he does. He is pretty overwhelmed with work, he is a good worker and does a great job, but organized and mindful of his limitations he is not. We had a long talk yesterday and we are in good terms now( all the issues mentioned above are not out of maliciousness but out of lack of feoresight and biting more than you can chew). Apparently there is a development with the engine; first of all, it looks amazing all put togetehr except for the fact that it is having timing issues. Piston one hits an intake valve when it goes up. another issue is that my tensioner( which is brand spanking new OEM by the way) is not providing enough tension and the cam chain skips teeth on the sprockets sometimes. As for the forks, sure you can have mine, I'm trying to look for a complete 08+ front section, let me know if you know of someone selling theirs(I want the triple tree, wheel, front disc, mudguard, shaft and spacers but no front caliper), make me an offer and we'll talk about getting you the forks.

Is this because you already have a J-series caliper or are you planning to use the pregen calipers somehow?

Sorry for the lack of updates, currently preparing to file a small claim suit against my mechanic and talking to a couple of my lawyer friends. Also shopping for an entire 08+ front section( nearly impossible to find a decent front wheel or shocks on ebay) so if any of you guys know of any let me know. Also I'm clearing my work space and maybe sell my other 2 projects so i can focus on this one financially. That is all I got at the moment, I will let you know how it all turns out.

Well, @gilmorec61's wrecked bike probably has a good front end judging by where it was hit but, as usual, it'll probably disappear into that void where insurance folks usually send wrecked bikes.

Welp, I'm back from the shop and we have reached an agreement. He is giving me back half of my money and finishing putting the engine back together. He wont charge me for all the extra parts he feels need replacement and I will have it back this saturday. The only problem with it now is goin to be that timing issue and I am now in the hunt for either a local expert who can help me figure it out or a good shop in the are that is able to fix it.

@CZroe, send me your e-mail man, got some pics for ya.

Yeah, about. The project has been around a year or 2, the engine saga started in december last year. But is almost over. I will have a verdict soon. depending on their answer tomorrow, it will be scrap time or continuance for that engine.

I expected to see your finished bike with newgen stuff long before essentially buying my way into this with a bike that already has that stuff done. Even so, all the stuff that still needs to be done on mine will be s-l-o-w going, so you're still likely to have something to show long before I do.

Good luck!

Oh, I still curious if the sprocket alignment is off by as much as the old gen sprocket was on the newgen. I wouldn't have the tools to measure such a thing!

HAHAH, at this pace we will both finish at the exact same time, in that case I call jinx first. I will let you know about the alignment once I have an engine to mount and measure that with, until then I will be watching.

So, today was my last day of traveling around and looking for someone to fix this thing. Visited 4 shops in the area, one way in the boonies and one in MD. All very knowledgeable, courteous and experienced, none in my range or willing to let me dig my hole deeper. I always kept an expense report and know the sum by heart, when they heard it, 4 out of 5 told me to just chuck the damn thing, one told me i could do whatever but wont recommend spending more on it. I'm starting to agree, for 3k I can get a decent new gen to tinker with, or a nice pre-gen to butcher and maim and still have money for beer; so after all this time and money spent on this, I might just part it out and look for another option. I'm not in a stable financial position right now, I kinda want to ride this year, and I'm sick of all this drama. Expect a sale soon, or not, I'm like a damn woman and won't make up my mind.

TL;DR: This project might be done, because is not financially sound, and I'm not mechanically adept to finish it on my own.

Aint that a bummer, if you decide to sell, lemme know about the rear setup;

wheel
swingamr
brakes
shock
bones

Make me a deal I can't refuse.

most car/ bike projects arent financially sound.
the stuff you add on increases the value probably .20 on the dollar or less.

the only projects that are financially sound are some race and vintage oriented bikes. most are financial holes, kind of like boats, but not as bad.

the only thing that custom projects will give you is a feeling of accomplishment.
to some that's better than money...

I hear ya, this was more for me than to sell or whatever, The problem is I hit a wall and I have learned from past experience that when you do, is better to quit and start anew rather than dig that hole deeper. I'm still undecided, so lets just say that I have put the shovel aside to ponder about how deeper can the hole go, and if it is safe to keep on diggin'.

Why don't you just put the project on hold for the time being instead of selling it. I doubt you will get much for it if you do sell it.

You could buy yourself that new gen you want and then maybe in the future an opportunity will arise to finish up your ninjette-fighter.

Don't you die on me @CZroe!!! Besides, after seeing that VRossi wheel set, I decided I want that instead the 08+ stockers, so that and a set of 08+ front forks will be the next 2 big buys, I expect to be riding by next year at 89% done with it, then it will be odds and ends over the next few years until it is complete.
