First track day! (Warning: pic heavy)

Hooked! My E-Z Up canopy bent in the exact spot you guys warned, but I bought it anyways, 'cause I needed shade on a budget.

mmm Love those Pirellis don't you?

If you're hooked come join the So. Cal crew! Meet some of the racers!

August 4th and 5th at Buttonwillow Raceway with Trackdayz.

The weekend of September 21-23 at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway with Trackdayz on the 21st for a track day then stick around and watch the CVMA races on the 22nd and 23d. I'll be getting my race license on Friday and doing the 250 races that weekend. Great fun to watch. Come on out!

Sure do! I might have to check that out, if my schedule and budget allow!

I had to choose between farkles, or track equipment/time. Went over my planned budget, but no regrets!

The closest is Nola (about 3 hours away) and I've also heard they're pretty cheap as well (only $50) for a full day of fun . It's only a matter of time though...I just got my clip-ons and my x-race predator rearsets this week, then I'll be getting the Rosso IIs and I'll be done!
Was the bike stock? (as in bars and rearsets) What coolant did you use? (I'm already running WaterWetter)...and what mods do you wish you'd have done prior to your track day that you think would have made it more "enjoyable" and your bike more "responsive"? Any tips, I would appreciate

$50? That's a deal! Mine was $125, and that's one of the cheaper prices over here. The track was about 3.5 - 4 hours away from me. Yeah, my bike is stock, I wanted to get rearset adjusted and clip on, but my budget didn't allow for it at the time. Plus, I wanted to try it out in stock form, and work on body positioning first. They will definitely be the first mods I put on before my next track day. I'm running regular old coolant...I was going to change to WaterWetter, but didn't have enough time, and it wasn't required for this track. Other than that, I'd say tires would make the biggest performance difference. I've said it in the Pirelli thread, but it was day and night between the Rosso II's and the stock tires I had. Better everything, including responsiveness!

For the track day itself, look up the weather, and prepare for it. You're going to be out there for hours, and want to be comfortable, and ready to ride. Make sure to hydrate! Also, if you haven't worked out in a while (like me) I'd get on it. Track riding was way more demanding than any street and canyon riding I've done...especially in the legs. I'd do squats, and more squats. This might seem obvious, but don't ride to the track! Find a way to transport the bike; better yet, carpool. I'm sure the other, way more experienced track riders on here can give you some other great tips.

Perhaps I'll try this mod

As he said, do not ever ride to the track. You can't bring everything that you should and you'll very quickly find that it's way more exhausting than you think.

I couldn't believe it myself when I was told. I only know little, but from what I gathered, the track is a "go kart" track but I was assured it wasn't miniature The guy (a real track fanatic) also mentioned that they host 250 races out there and that our ninjettes and the cbrs are a fixture over there. I'll try to learn more. (hope it's not literally a too good to be true kinda deal)

Pussed out of putting the knee down, lol. I know it's the wrong reaction, but every time I'd scrape the feelers, I'd pull my knee up.

Hellz yea Jay!

Nothing wrong with pulling your knee up as long as you know where you are with the lean. I do it all the time. Those pucks get expensive long after the 5th set @ $45 a set. Choose one though, knee or feelers, I would choose knee of course. If you keep going with that mostly stock setup, your going to scrape the exhaust or kickstand mount. Get that bum off the seat so you can keep the bike more upright until you raise/replace the stock stuff. If your dragging peg, with good BP you could be dragging knee no problem.

Rock on yo!

Thanks for the tips, Chris! I plan on getting rearset adjusters, clip ons, and a different exhaust. I need to figure out the kickstand situation. I believe this was one of my ealier runs in the day...worked on my BP the rest of the day, and was hanging off more with my butt more off the seat by the end of the day. Thanks, again!

Do it up! Only a matter of time. I think most tracks days have photographers. A little pricey, but I had to do it for my first track day.

That slow fatass infront of you is indeed me.

Wish I've known you were a forum member man. I recall 2 moments.

1) Walking past your bike towards registration and noticing the eyes and thinking "ha that's pretty funny. and he actually draws pretty good"

2) Looking back so I can let the faster guys pass me going off the pit and you didn't so I turned around and kept going.

That dog is GODDAMN BIGGGGGGG hahah. It was still cute though.

Don't hesitate to say hi if you ever see me again. I'll be there again on 7th and 14th

Awesome! Nice bike! I looked like a match stick on the 250, haha. Along with the control riders, I was using you to help learn my lines and body positioning. I was hoping to see to maybe see any other forum members, but didn't see a single other 250 out there. I had a sad How was the transition from a 250 to 600? Hope to see you out there again!

Moments are pretty much dead on

You shouldn't have used me I'm clueless LOL.

My transition from 250 was weird. I never got in trouble cause of CC's though. I had my 250 for about 3 months or less I think. If I'd known I'd be doing pure track and no street I'd probably get a 250 and stick to it for a long time!

It's alright though. Learning slowly. And still LOVE the R6 haha.

It punishes you though. You better be in right gear with this beast or it just doesn't pick up speed. Very weak lowend power. Then it goes crazy

Do a -1f +2r on the sprockes Gurk and alot of your pick up problems will go away. If $$ no object, cut the cat out and replace with a new midpipe, throw a bizzaz on there and motor the sh*t out of some folks.

EDIT: Careful with that setup, when it hits it's beast mode in the upper rpm range it's easy to spin up the rear in the corners if your tires are hot and greasy.

Man I wanna beat this thing hahah.

Meaning I wanna keep the bike stock (except the quick shifter I added months ago) and learn right technique. I just should be in the right gear I have no excuse not to be. I even took out the damper. I need to use my legs more and keep arms / elbows loose.

Ya know what I mean?

And I'm nowhere good enough that an exhaust will improve my riding or improve my lap times

So it'd all be a waste of money right now. It's just more **** that will get damaged when I crash again.

Maybe way later down the line.... When I actually NEED it to improve my lap times.

My R6 is bone stock still, so I fully know what you mean. There is just no substitute for good riding and a high level of skill. I am feeling ya. PM me a link to your most current vids, I would like to see if you don't mind. I will share mine too.

Just so you know, I was meaning to cut off your catalytic converter (8lbs-13lbs) and just replace with a mid pipe = cheaper crash replacement. Bizzaz is a quick shifter, you already got that covered (I need to read better).

Oh, sorry for the threadjack!

Resume normal programming.

The eyes are drawn quite well. Imagine what you could do on track plastics. Even if you couldn't paint them, you could draw it and have it painted by a pro.

Nice pics looks like you were doing great!

I wish I could come out to Cali, so many great roads and tracks out there. Hope I get a job offer in So Cal soon....

Here's a little bit of footage from one of my runs. Please excuse the sloppy lines...I'm working on them!
