Whats wrong with my baby?? Ticking noise??
Last night as I was pulling into my garage I noticed the bike was making a weird ticking noise, but I figured I was tired and it was just all in my head, but I woke up today and rode the bike around for a bit and the noise is still there! Is this a common issue? Possibly just need to change my oil? Maybe its my two brothers exhaust?
I'm not very bike-engine savy and idk what to do or whats wrong :/ |

Low on oil?
Time for an oil change? Time for a valve adjustment? Chain to tight? Chain not clean/lubed? How many miles and when was the last service?

Oil less than half, but it looks ******, I havent done anything from when I bought the bike at 14k and its at 15.5k now. Chain seems to have 1inch up and down.
I can provide video if youd like, just tell me what to record. Edit: Chain not lubed. |

Well then....
Start with an oil change and chain lube. And maybe your ticking will go away.

dude i just experienced the same exact thing today!
Happens in low gears, often when downshifting/slowing down or just accelerated and letting go of the throttle..i'll hear tick tick tick and it'll stop, dont hear it when accelerating..Couldnt quite tell but i believe it stopped after 10 or so mins of riding around. Hope you figure out teh issue. *edit* sounds like its coming from the radiator. or anywhere in that general vicinity. |

Is there a guide somewhere on how to do a full service to the bike? Or a page that links a guide on each task?

Its called a factory service manual. Ask for it at the Kawasaki parts counter.

nothing wrong with it. I replaced mine three years ago and the clicking came back. just something they are prone to do from what I researched. you might want to remove the cct and dunk it in oil for a while. tried that once and it cured the click for a bit. you could also go with a manual cct.

i replaced my cct with a manual one and now the tick is gone in mine. Id pull your cct, its not hard and reset it. Usually the noise will disappear for a bit.

If you have 15.5k on it now it is past time for a valve adjustment. It is recommended to be done every 7.5k miles. Do you know if it was performed by the previous owner(s)?? If your at 15.5 and it hasnt had one yet then you are definitely overdue and it could very well be the ticking. It's also not something that isn't a "big deal" as it can cause many issues if it is in fact bad.
Time to open that sucker up |

Here ya go
Since these 250's rev much higher, it's best to always keep an eye on your oil and oil change intervals. Since I ride mine very aggressive I actually change my oil every 2,000 miles. Yes that's overkill but I'm hard on that motor. Now that oil is squared away, the ticking is coming from the Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT). It is VERY COMMON in our bikes for this part to fail. Order an APE Manual CCT and watch some youtube videos on how to install it and adjust it. You'll be fine after that.
