Leather Cleaner and Conditioner

So my jacket was getting grimy. The Orlando guys that have seen it in person can verify that this is a tad of an understatement. It was like this all over, with some parts even dirtier, even patches of complete black (no joke).

So I went to CycleGear today to buy some warmer gloves and the guy mentioned how dirty my jacket was. I just shrug it off and go "Yeah, it's pretty well used." Well, by the end of it, I bought the gloves and a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of conditioner. I figured it'd tidy it up a bit, but wasn't expecting much with how dirty the jacket was. Well, turns out that this stuff is pretty darn good at cleaning it. And it feels much softer and nicer after having applied the conditioner too. It's Lexol and only like $7 each bottle. It did take me roughly 2.5 hours to do my jacket, which is probably more than normal, but I'm sure if you did it regularly and didn't let it get as dirty, it wouldn't take as long. Anyways, it resulted in the jacket now looking like this:

I just wanted to share how satisfied with this cleaner and conditioner I am and recommend it to all of my Ninjette-ers. If you're looking for something to clean and maintain your leather gear with, Lexol is the stuff I'd point you to.

End up getting warmer gloves? My hands froze off this AM, and tomorrow isn't looking any better....So I'm in need of warmer gloves too.

Yup, picked up the Sedici ones. If you go to Orlando, just tell Frank you want the ones I got, he'll show you. I got an email when I got home about 2 or 3 hours after buying them saying they went on sale for 25% off.

I've been using Lexol for years. I buy it by the gallon. It works great on your leathers, your car seats (which may be leather), your sofa (if it's leather), and anything else (if they are leather).

Lexol works great! I use it on my race leathers also. Keeps them supple and lets them loosen up a bit so you don't crush your "junk"

Cleaning White Leathers?

Anybody have any experience in this area?
Whats the best way to do it?
Should you do it as soon as you see the dirt?
Drycleaners every months or so?

Anybody?

Cheers guys

Clean it after every ride. Fresh stains are easier to clean obviously. I just use a damp cloth with some mild soap; very little. Gently wipe, not scrub and rinse with a clean damp cloth. Wipe off the excess water with a dry cloth and let the jacket dry in a ventilated area. Once a year, you should apply a leather conditioner to the jacket.

I haven't needed to take mine to the cleaners yet but the label inside says not to dry clean it. I'd consider it as a last resort but only if sending it to a place that specializes in leather cleaning and has a known reputation for doing a fine job. There are horror stories of people having expensive leather garments ruined after a trip to the local dry cleaners.

Leather care

Hey guys, I have a perf'd A* GPR jacket that I absolutely LOVE and I want to keep it in good condition. I was wondering if any of you guys apply anything to your leathers to keep them from cracking or drying out.

Nice Jacket. Use a leather cleaner/conditioner on it. You can get them at any leather store or shoe stores should carry them also. Spot test first in a hidden area. Let your jacket air out fully after a sweaty ride and don't store it in plastic. I use a breathable garment bag and then hang the jacket in the closet when I'm not riding.

Lexol is good stuff,

The key thing to look for for leather conditioning is to make sure it has LANOLIN. If it doesn't don't bother. There are a lot of leather conditioners and cleaners out there that do not have it. If it doesn't have it, it's junk.

Lexol actually has lanolin.

On the Triumph675.net forum there was a guy that wrote a good how to on how to clean and recondition leathers. He is car detailer and the pics he shows are from a car seat. His method, is cheap, simple, and effective.

I used his method to revive one of my gloves. I used Lexol and they are good as new.

IIRC, here is the method I used (which includes cleaning it because there was sweat impeded).

spray water on item (like spritz) and I used simple green and sprayed on there. THen use a nylon bristle brush to get into the pores of the leather and clean it. Think of it as removing grime from your hands (since leather is skin). Once it looks like the grime out out, wipe off immediately. Put a good layer of Lexol (like almost saturated) on the leathers and let it sit/soak overnight (this is what's key). After a day passes, go ahead and wipe the excess off.

I used a microfiber cloth and warm water to get mud off my jacket, then put more leather honey on those spots. May not work if your suit is covered in it though. I would just call around to dry cleaners and ask them what their protocol is for leather and if it feels right go for it. If they sound unsure or out of practice call someone else.

Thanks, sounds like a solid idea.

When I went down alongside my bike this past week my suit got engulfed in mud. Couple people asked me if I went moto-crossing... lol.

Suit looks in damn good condition otherwise though. Leathers are a riders best friend.

Does Lexol help make the leather a little more sticky by any chance? I just bought a one-piece Cortech suit and am having some problems sliding around on the seat. I think it could be because it's brand new, but trying to get it fixed ASAP...

On the inside or outside?

I believe the directions want you to buff it after applying.
