Talking New rider from Ohio

Hey guys! Decided to finally join the moto fam. I recently bought a little 250, she's a 2009 ninja. Never touched a manual before and having trouble downshifting properly. Any tips or videos you guys recommend? Thank you and nice to meet everyone!

Hello Bailee, welcome to the forum!

Downshifting should be pretty simple... let off gas, pull in clutch, shift, give some gas to speed up engine a little, let out clutch. When you get better at it you can try not letting off gas, pull in clutch, quickly downshift and let out clutch.

You'll get the hang of it, assuming the bike's clutch and transmission are working as they should. The key is getting a feel of the timing of the three controls you're working with.

That's a neat looking Ninja. I have a fuscia and black drag boat.

You can do it without giving it gas, but it will be like putting on the rear brake when you let out the clutch. You'd need to let it out to the friction point and hold it there until the engine catches up. Either that or put up with a little jerkiness.

Practicing to get the feel of it is what's really going to help.
