2009 250r won't run without choke

I recently had moved from Austin back to my hometown Seabrook. In that transition I would ride my bike twice a month within a 7 month time frame. I tried to start it 4 days ago and it would not start, just a clicking sound and eventually nothing.

I flushed the gas out, changed the oil and oil filter and got it to run on full choke. Worked down to half choke fine. Tried to take it completely off choke and it would just die every single time. (I let it run choked for like 15 minutes).

It's been sitting on the trickle charger for the past 3 days with the no progress, any ideas on what could be causing this?

Welcome Jessy.

Sounds like a carb cleaning is in your future (idle jets).

Did you use a fuel stabilizer when you let it sit?

If your battery has been charging for 3 days it may be dead.
What was your idle speed with the choke on? If it is too low the bike will not run, too high and it will overheat especially after 15 minutes.
Also check your snorkel and air filter to make sure they are clean and unobstructed.

Before you tear into the carbs, you might consider putting Seafoam or Gumout in your fresh gas, and maybe tapping on each carburetor with a wrench or pliers to (hopefully) dislodge any crap that might be partially blocking a needle valve, jet, or orifice. Then run the bike for a while, then let it sit overnight, then try it again the next day.

Cool

Welcome to our site, Jessy !!!

Is this the right order of events?:

1) I tried to start it 4 days ago and it would not start, just a clicking sound and eventually nothing.

2) ...got it to run on full choke.

3) It's been sitting on the trickle charger for the past 3 days.

If so, what "no progress" means?

thanks everyone for responding!

I just replaced the spark plugs (one being bad).
I think csmith12 may right about cleaning the carbs...
I put a new air filter in it about 3 months ago.

For starters I will put some fuel treatment in like dcj13 said and if that doesn't work I will attack the carbs. I will keep y'all updated thanks

Did you ever get it working? The fact that you just got clicking when trying to start sounds more like a dead/discharged battery than carb issues. The bike doesn't charge the battery very quickly, so if your occasional maintenance rides over that 7 month period weren't very long the battery would slowly deplete until the point when it couldn't run the starter motor (clicking noise, and eventually nothing).

It's certainly possible that you also have gunk in your carbs, but first charge that battery, check the voltage after charging and while trying to crank the bike, and see if you need a new battery.
