Launching

So my first trackday is fast approaching(10/28/12). I've been watching a lot of videos of 250's on the track, and noticed they were revving before taking off.

Then I saw the thread choneofakind made, and he was at 6k then another at 9k. I never thought of doing that at all.

Are there any other things I should look up before heading out? Should I do a few launches before?

...you're going to a track day and you're worried about that first 15 seconds that you leave the pits?

Dude, just ride off like you normally would, and go enjoy the curves!

Don't burn up your clutch on a trackday. You want to take it easy first lap to warm up your tires also. You don't want to crash so ride at your own pace. Be predictable in corners so others can pass(if they allow that). Worry about what is in front of you , not what is behind you.

Drew.

A TRACK DAY is NOT A RACE.

Just imagine you're on a one way street going for a nice ride. You have all day get to know your bike as well as progress on skills to becoming a better rider.

Make sure your tires are good. Air pressure is good. Chain lubed and tensioned properly, throttle snaps back, brakes work. clutch works. Mirrors taped off or removed. Headlights taped up and fuse pulled. Breathe. and Relax. Don't worry about going fast. I have seen numerous noobs get out on their first track day and wreck their bike early in the day. They think it's a race and are trying to prove themselves they can be fast and pass other bikes. The winner is the one who doesn't wreck his **** at the end of the day.

I might be out there riding or just doing track side support.

Format will be like this:
9 AM track is hot for Advance
Then intermediate
Then Novice.

First session for novice is will be a round robin where you will ride around the track with the instructors to get to know the track as well as "the line". There will be class after each session to go over riding basics and fundamentals.
Second session, you will be split up into groups, usually 6-7 per instructor or two which I would expect since Novice is already sold out.
Third session, is one on one with the instructor and for the rest of the day if you need it or have questions on lines, braking, etc. You can request the instructor to follow you while you ride so he can give you pointers on what to work on. Slow is Smooth and Smooth is fast.

If you want to asspack the guy in front of you, then launch like that. Otherwise, enter the track in a smooth, controlled manner. At the end of hot pit, be harder on the throttle than normal but you don't have to be pinned. Oh!!! your on a 250, be pinned at the end of hot pit if you gots wide open track.

Do not enter the track until given the flag/hand signal
Do not pass on hot pit
Do not merge into traffic until at pace
Stay to the (left/right until at pace, depending on track direction)
Do not get "black flagged" in hot pit lol
Do not crash on hot pit, because you can get run over

Relax and have fun!

Today there are many ladies riding trackdays (as well as racing). If you launch and hit the back of one of the female riders do they go around complaining that they got "asspacked"?

Here's a typical start for a novice at Mid-Ohio. No launching

The whole movie is long, so just watch the parts that interest you.

I watched the first two minutes of it. I think the guy with the cam is on an e-bike. The guy in front of him has really bad form.

I watched the first three minutes of it. Ever notice that the 250 sounds the best out of all the bikes. Reminds me of when we were kids and put baseball cards in our spokes. I also love how the 250 is the fastest in the corners. No one can touch a 250 in cornering.

Can't wait to see it!

Upload the video to youtube first, then edit a post like this but remove spaces and replace with your VideoID or you can just press the button in the advanced editor.

I uploaded the video this morning, youtube immediately removed it for being too long. I increased my limit, and shortened the video. Uploading now, but my internet is SLOW says it has 250 minutes left at 23%.

Not bad for a first track day.
Lines need a tad more work and you need to downshift 1 gear (at least). Flog that little ninja It should be screaming, not purring But that'll come.

Coming to Cresson this weekend?

Well, the best western at Cresson is right across the road from the track, and all the junkies stay there. Join WFO forums and next time you want to do a TWS/MSRC/ECR track you can try to find a ride. We all share.

Nice job, man. It's all about having fun. Take things at your own pace and gradually increase performance as you get more comfortable. Focus on your lines and body position and, if offered, take advantage of on-track time with the control riders and instructors (not sure what the schools and orgs out that way offer).

On a side note, can't wait to get down to Austin so I can get on some of the tracks in that area of the country. Our season is already done up here in CT. January can't come fast enough.
