Just got my ninja!

Brand spanking new 2016 Ninja 300 ABS model, fresh off the truck!

Unfortunately, the weather here isn't cooperating (it never does), so I can't start breaking it in yet, but for now I can drool over it while it sits in my garage.

Already got several mods planned for it, some performance, some cosmetic. Once I get some stuff together and get rolling, I'll make a new thread with updates, more pics, etc. ^_^

Thanks! From the looks of it, Monday will be the earliest that we're gonna have a break from the rain, but I'll probably wait for it to be clear for a couple days so the roads dry out. Until then I can get a few things shipped to me and start the mods.

Lol, tell me about it! That's one of the top priorities, but for now cash is a little tight to buy what I want, so I'm gonna focus on some other mods instead.

Yoshimura full exhaust is a good start, if you really want to crank up the engine though. But since you are tight in cash, you might want to get the cosmetic mods first

Yeah, a yoshi full system would be nice, I'll probably wait until I find a good sale for one. As far as cosmetic mods, I'm waiting for Kawa to release an OEM single seat in red. I really want it.

I've got some oggy nob sliders shipping to me, as well as a fender eliminator, swingarm spools, etc.

For more cosmetic stuff, I'm gonna be redoing the windscreen, replacing some bolts and covers, getting some of them powder coated to match the bike, new break lines, heavier bar end weights, powder coating the wheels, new clutch and break bars, and eventually a new exhaust, but that's a ways down the road. ^_^

Update:

While I've got a lot of parts ordered, not much has come in yet, so I'm just poking away.

So far I got the first couple oil changes done (TONS of shavings), put a clear tank protector on so I don't hide that pretty red paint, removed the front reflectors and replaced them with matching bolts, and removed the rear fender side reflectors.

On order are a lot of cosmetic mods (Red bolts/nuts/caps/etc), some swingarm spools, oggy nob sliders, kick stand foot, and magnetic drain bolt. I'll start posting pics once things start coming!

Hey there! Just bought a brand new 2014 ninja 300 SE! I noticed you got the oil changed fairly quick, is that because you put a lot of miles on it, or is it because you just decided to change it early?

The early oil changes were to remove metal shavings from the system. As the break in is being done, the the engine produces quite a lot of them, which can be harmful if they work their way back into the system.

I did my first at 20 miles and noticed that after I let the oil sit, the entire bottom of the pan was silver with flecks of metal. At the 50 mile, there was a lot less, but still a good bit. Then again at 100 there was noticeably less (I installed a magnetic drain plug at this oil change)

Even now I just did my 600 mile change, and the amount of metal attached to the magnet, as well as in the oil pan was surprising. I know that's a lot of oil changes, but the oil + filters aren't too expensive, and I like the piece of mind in knowing that I've gotten so much metal away from my engine.

BTW; Congrats on the new bike! What're your plans for it?

Thanks! It's just for everyday use really, I have no specific plans. I'm 18 and this is my first bike. I've wanted one my whole life and this is the first opportunity I had to buy one, so I jumped on it!

Awesome! Super happy for you. Ninja is what I always wanted growing up, and I got one as my first also.

Gotta do my due diligence though and five the basic advice; ATGATT (all the gear, all the time). I know from experience how much it sucks wearing full gear in 100°F heat, and the time it takes to put on for a quick ride, but I learned the hard way and was lucky to only be out of work a week with nothing broken. Would've been way less if I was wearing more than my helmet, T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

Ride safe, and have fun!!

Will do! My only confession is that I wear my everyday shoes, but other then that I do wear all my gear! The shoes are only temporary though. Anyways, thank you for the advice and have fun too on that awesome 2016 bike of yours!

Boots are the thing I let slide too, but that's because I commute to work on mine, and I wear high-ankle, fiberglass reinforced work boots with all sorts of ANSI ratings and such on them. I used to wear sneakers, but I had two issues with those; one, was that the lace would come out of my shoe, and wrap around my peg on one side or another, basically trapping my foot so I couldn't put it down, or even shift / brake effectively. The other was that wreck that I had. Going just 25 mph and having a left-side collision with an oncoming SUV, the shoe just ripped apart. Was kinda unreal just how easily it got damaged. O_O

Anyway, enough of my cautionary tales, GO HAVE FUN! Also, post pics in your bike thread! We're all dying to see it!

Hey man, if you are looking for some quick gear, Spidi has some zip-up pants that fit over your clothes and are quick-off.

Also, I have to ask, are that many shavings normal for a '16 Ninja? I have one of those red ones in our showroom at my store, but we have a KRT still in a crate which I will be buying soon. I need to know this, because I will be ordering a magnetic plug with the ninja then.
